miniminch 19-09-2004, 17:54 Are there any other places in the world that share the name of our beloved city?
Points awarded for remoteness and obscurity.

There's a Sheffield on the way to Land's End. It's got a proper sign but seems to entirely consist of a farmhouse.

genesiscouch 19-09-2004, 18:31 There's a Sheffield, Ontario, Canada and a Sheffield, New Brunswick, Canada but I can't find any photos. Also, Sheffield Mills, Nova Scotia, Canada, or Sheffield Lake, Newfoundland, Canada.
How about the Sheffield School of Interior Design in New York...http://www.sheffield.edu/

Beastieboy 19-09-2004, 20:00 Not sure on the truth behind this one but I heard there is a Sheffield in China. The town (whose original name I don't know) is a steel town, they changed the name to Sheffield so they could brand the steel with made in Sheffield on it. So now all Sheffield steel has made in Sheffield uk.
Here is the one in Cornwall (http://www.noize.plus.com/images/IMG_0265.JPG)
and another one (http://www.noize.plus.com/images/IMG_0264.JPG), courtesy of The Richard Hawley Board.

Our very own SheffieldForum says that is not correct. However, there are just as many posts saying it is...therefore probably not :D

The town of Sheffield that is supposed to exist in China is a complete fallacy, its the Cutlery firms in Sheffield that buy the finished goods and just mark them "Made in Sheffield".

mr.blaze 20-09-2004, 07:26 I have a sign saying Sheffield on my door. +1 more.
I am sad but I admit to travelling miles out of my planned route to visit this place. What a waste of time. It looks nice on the link on this thread but it is very dull in reality and almost all of New Zealand looks like that anyway. Very rude lady in the local shop as well.

I heard it was Japan.
Sheffield is a protected Trade Name - if you want to register a company in this country with the name Sheffield in it you have to prove there is a reason for it (like you trade in Sheffield!)
Likewise, the Japanese were foiled in their cunning plot. The Cutlers' Company took legal action so they were not allowed to export cutlery using the phrase "Made in Sheffield".

The sugar farming area immediately north of Durban was founded by a Sheffielder and a lot of the villages on the north coast are named after areas of Sheffield
i.e. Tinsley
Manor
Intake
Sheffield Beach
