That late bar down by the Washington, DQ is it?
Well, amid rumours of an Arctic Monkeys set (which didn't happen, as far as I'm aware) there were actually some decent acoustic sets from the likes of Milburn et al, but the stinkiest stink of the night was the notice that said something along the lines of "The bar will be closed from 11.45-12.30". I mean, I'm all for closing the bar like most places do for 20 minutes or so, but the upshot was I ended up making a quarter of a pint last a goddam hour. And I had to share it with the missus. Cheers, yeah?

I went to a dinner/dance at the Courtyard in Rotherham.

Good - nice food and worth the money. As a veggie I got melon and sorbet, stilton and parsnip soup, asparagus and mushroom lasagne with veggies, Strawberry champagne basket, cheese board and crackers, coffee and choccies. And a glass of champers. Crackers, posh party hats, party poppers etc.

Bad - Not the thing for two single girlies to do who usually go to indie bars. I wore a dress and heels (not me) and had to listen to cheesy eighties and seventies 'party' music or smoochies, surrounded by people a lot older than me who were all in couples. Felt extremely Bridget Jones, which was the ultimate aim of NOT going clubbing. Watching people your parents' age snogging, with no other single people around but your mate, kind of rubs in the fact I'm a singleton.

Edna!!

I know! Next year it's back to getting trollied in a bar somewhere and snogging some random bloke that is far too young for me!

The emotional pain of dancing foot side to side to Showaddywaddy was offset by my digestion problems.(See my windy pops thread!:help: )

I actually enjoyed going back to my mate's place and watching Tales from the Crypt! :)

I went to bed and was ill - that's a bad new years!

02-01-2007, 05:38 PM
I was ill too! I managed a few drinks in town and a meal but was home in bed before 1 the earliest new year I've ever been home on record! And it was my first Sheffield New Year as I went away last 1 as I'd only just moved here!

Anyway I don't know you Edna (I don't think so anyway!) and I'm not one to laugh at others misfortune but the Bridget Jones line, crap party music and the thing about watching oldies snog made me laugh! So I hope you have a better time for the rest of 2007!

Happy new year to everyone!

I don't think so (at least i hope not), though someone actually brought a prawn ring to the do and started eating it. That was the highlight of the night for me.

It is a circle of larger than average prawns with their heads still attached, with some sort of sauce in the middle. It looked very wrong is all i can say...:gag:

You miserable git... The sign was behind the bar ALL NIGHT, you should have bought enough drinks to last! Me and the staff worked from 4pm till 7am NYE, we had family and friends from all over the country who'd come over..
Milburn, Harrisons and Gas Club all did live stuff and the Monkeys did DJ at midnight..
Sorry if anyone else was upset by this but, frankly, be a bit more thoughtful, we only charged £5 to get in. The staff are what makes this bar, don't try and make me regret treating them fairly...

Cheers
Matt
PS Happy frickin new year

Fair play to you Matt, if it wasn't for the bar staff at any venue, none of us would have been able to enjoy such a good new years. Good to see a boss treating their staff with a bit of respect.

Went to Amsterdam.

The weather was crap.

The atmosphere in Dam Square was fantastic

Drinks were a bit pricey - 3 Buds and a coke in The Tara = 22 Euros :o

A "prawn ring" sounds like a nasty itchy complaint you might need some soothing cream for.

And have you ever tried to find an open chemist on a new years eve?

Kingdom was a good final night.... was packed though!

didn't see any fights.... thought there might be a few, as everyone was bumping into each other, especially near the midnight bell. Got soaked with beer when everyone jumped around at 12am hehe... all in the name of fun though.

Kingdom RIP :hihi:
