At a party in middlewood on New Years Eve, a young girl arrived at about 11.30 to meet her parents.
She had just been charged £28.00 for a black cab from Queens Road.
Given that it was New Years Eve, I still think that is an outrageous charge for a journey that took less than 20 minutes.

Its goes to fare and half on New Years Eve/Day xmas Day and Boxing Day. Queens road to Middlewood on a normal taxi fare would be around 8-10 quid so it would be around £15.
Its a blatant rip off. We had a few drivers like this on a big taxi company where i used to work. One fare i collected a person from Penistone. I charged her around £20-25 and she told me that was cheap. The driver who took her out charged her £48!!!!!!! This sort of stuff gives us drivers a bad name. Companies really should be accountable for this sort of stuff or sack the driver.
I've even had arguments with a black cab driver when he wanted to turn his meter off and charge me ten quid to get back to walkley from west st.

I got a black cab yesterday and there was a notice up in it saying that the only extra fare over the Christmas/New Year period was an extra £2 per journey. They even listed the times this applied. Indeed yesterday I was only charged £2 extra - it was already on the meter when I got in (£4.50 starting fare rather than £2.50). Did I manage to get the only scrupulous cabbie in Sheffield?!

We got a couple of black cabs on new years eve and it was only £2 extra. I was well impressed.
Not as bad as this one cabby that we flagged down on Surrey Street. We asked how much to the Hilton, and he said 25 quid. Knob.

I went from the Stag in Rotherham to the Courtyard - two miles perhaps? and it was £9- the Rotherham taxi firms were charging double time. This was on the going and the return journey. They had made this clear to me and i didn't think it was bad but having read this threads, wish i'd got a black cab!
