Do you find that Banks all seem to be modernising there premises but the service gets worse.
Take my local one the Yorkshire Bank.
All there premises may look nicer but due to "updating them" is suppose to improve efficancy yet we see 7 counters dwindle to 4 and still not all are manned.
The service was so bad with 7 counters that with just half a dozen in a queue you could take 20 minutes to get served.
The service is now even worse.
The Yorkshire bank at Firth Park gets my vote for the worse bank in Sheffield.

I reckon HSBC is the worst. They seem to be getting rid of practically all of their counter staff and going "automatic", the branches is town are normally counter-free now, and the branch near the university only ever seems to have one counter open!
I've been seriously considering taking my account to another bank when I get around to it!

I love the HSBC, the one on coles corner allows me to pay in cash/cheques in 2seconds flat! :D

And my local branch always has 2 people on, and I can see my branch manager whenever I want, i dont even need an appointment :D

Not to mention theyve just given me a £1000 interest free overdraft, its all good!

I once went to HSBC on Bank street and drew ALL my wages out of the hole-in-the-wall. I got a message on the screen stating that 'my transaction could not be carried out', so i went to my own bank (Nat West) and they said i had already drawn all my money out from HSBC. I went back up to HSBC and they opened the machine and checked the purge bin, because there was nothing in it (there could'nt be anything in it because it had'nt given me anything in the first place), so they said there was nothing they could do.

This left me stuck in town with only the change in my pocket and a small family to take care of. Needless to say i will NEVER go near a HSBC bank ever again!!!!!!!!.

why didn't you go in the HSBC building and ask about it?

In those circumstances it is the responsibility of your own bank to sort it out, NOT the bank whose machine you used.

Just because it didn't give you anything, doesn't mean the purge bin would be empty. Notes can be put into the purge bin if for example they're torn or sellotaped together and can't be dispensed.

I did go into the bank to try and sort it but they did'nt seem to bothered about helping me.
I went back down to my bank and they put the due process into action, arount 2 weeks later i received a letter stating that HSBC were sticking by their initial findings and that i must have taken the cash out of the machine!.
At the time i was working for an agency and they paid me in cash for some holidays that they owed me, otherwise i would have been left in deep s**t by HSBC.

That ********. There is a journal roll inside a cash machine which records every transaction on it. If the transaction had been completed which in your case it hand, when it came to balancing the cash machine it would have been the amount you "withdrew" over.

By your own bank. Once again, they, not HSBC, are responsible for sorting this out.

The journal roll said it had carried out the transaction!.
So what are you going to say now?, maybe you want to imply that i am lying and was infact trying it on?. That is the feeling i got from the staff at the time.

The staff even said that they would check the camera incase the machine had paid the cash and the next person had pocketed it. They then said that there was no camera on that particular machine. Why say it in the first place then?

No I'm not implying that you're lying at all so please climb out of my throat.

When HSBC did a balance, they should have notified Natwest that is x amount (your requested amount) over. Then given the money back to Natwest, would have in turn credited your account.

Sorry for being a T**T jessycar.
As you can see, i still have bad feelings and feel let down by the whole experience.

If you're not happy with how they dealt with your complaint, write to the Financial Services Ombudsman.

No worries, probably didn't explain it as clearly as I could have done. It would have said on the journall whether it was completed or terminated is what I meant. :)

I'd go back to Natwest & quick up a fuss.

This happened over 4 years ago so i do'nt think there is any point in trying to get it back now.

I have learnt a lesson from this though. Now i will only use a cash machine if it has got a camera on it and i take note of all the messages that appear on the screen (HSBC said they had never heard of the message i saw).

ah right sorry, I thought it was quite recently.

Better to be safe than sorry :)

i have just had dealings with HSBC.

last night i rang them on behalf of my son who has autism and i have 3rd party mandate on his acount there. i have had no trouble with checking his acc on his behalf and with his permission for yrs, when all of a sudden they change their security rules. i could get nowhere. all they could say was get my son to ring up and give them details of a recent purchase. if he was able to do this then he would be making the call!!
i presume this is all to do with money laundering, but on the amount of money involved this idea is ludicrous.

Its worth noting that the amount of complaints about HSBC that ended up with the ombudsman was in single figures. The next closest, I believe was over 100.

I'm with HSBC and they are a PITA, they couldn't cope with the DD I had going to a company, it was also pot luck weather the card worked (or not) in the hole-in-the wall. It finally got sorted out.
I may well move to Lloyds-TSB or Nationwide, very good.
On the hand, I also have an a/c with Yorkshire Building Society who are very good, pleasent people, my local branch is a small one - never a problem.

Do people still go inside banks ?
I can honestly say that I haven't seen the inside of a bank for the last 5 or 6 years. Everything can be done on line, on the phone or via a cash machine.

I use IB every night; never use the chute to put the cheque in - don't know why but don't trust them, I would rather go up to the cashier and watch them do it there and then.

HSBC suck because they wouldn't even give me an account. Halifax suck because they won't give me an overdraft.

I'm thinking Barclays or a more friendly bank. Maybe one that the employee's run upto you on entering the bank and give you a big hug. Followed by informing you that there is now $50000000 in your account.

Or maybe I should start paying bills.

Lloyds = useless.

They're stuck in 1830 with regards to their banking practices.

I absolutely hate Halifax... The queues are ridiculous and when you actually get to the counter they are hardly the friendliest of staff. All they try and do is palm me off with a credit card, which I cannot have as I am 17! I also object to waiting 8 days for my wage cheque to clear.

I have other accounts at HSBC and I find their staff to be really friendly. I like how everything is automatic, so you don't have to queue up for ages just to pay a tenner in to cover a payment etc. One wage cheque that I paid in took just two days.

I'm trying to phase out the Halifax card, its just a load of hassle. I am not a very patient person and I do not appreciate waiting for 20 minutes just to put some cash on my card. This time next year I'll be having a student account with HSBC and they'll be giving me a grand like RPG hehe!

When LloydsTSB merged, they used TSBs staff with Lloyds computer system, apparently.

Yorkshire Bank are the worst in my experience. No matter which branch I went to I always had to queue for at least 10/15 minutes. In the end I complained and was told to write to Head Office in Leeds!

Not long after I withdrew all of both mine and my son's money and opened accounts elsewhere.
