View Full Version : HELP - How can I get hair dye off my skin?
I had my hair done yesterday and normally my hairdresser has this stuff that she wipes on my skin when the hair dye has gone but she hasn't so I have it all around my face and on my ears and it is NOT a good look for New Years Eve lol.
Any suggestions, please?
Ginger_Kitty 31-12-2006, 11:29 baby wipes? not tried and tested but they seem to do everything else!!
the other thing that seems to remove everything is nail varnish remover ;) use carefully!!!!
having never died my hair i do'nt know for sure but its worth a try :)
The other thing to try might be make up remover or skin toner or cleanser.
Avoid the sandpaper. :)
Ginger_Kitty 31-12-2006, 11:39 hehe Joe, I was going to suggest sandpaper ;)
Damn, I was just about to get my toolbox from the garage! I've tried make up remover and toner etc.
ItIsNow! 31-12-2006, 11:44 Try milk on a cotton pad.(One of those make-up remover pad thingies..)
EdnaKrabappe 31-12-2006, 11:47 This is ONLY as an emergency measure and be careful...
Jif or Cif as it's called now. Yes really. The lemon one works best... rinse extremely well. Followed by Clinque Clarifying lotion. Moisturise afterwards.
Make sure you moisturise really well before dyes go on to avoid this situation! I put vaseline or cold cream cleanser around my forehead to avoid the JIF?CIF scenario.
Edna,
Is there a special school you girlies go to to learn this stuff?
:)
Brunette 31-12-2006, 11:51 Boots sell special wipes which remove hair dye - in single wipe sachets for about £1!
x
I thought that Joe! I saw that Edna had posted and thought 'ah, she'll know what to do!'
Maybe we could start a 'hair and beauty' section of the forum?
EdnaKrabappe 31-12-2006, 12:06 LOL!
Call it a misspent youth Joe. Whilst others were collecting their asbos or taking illegal substances, I was collating twenty five different uses for Body Shop eye gel. :hihi:
Ooh yes let's have a hair and beauty section!! You've got my backing XsunshineX
ELSoames 31-12-2006, 12:23 I always use conditioner on a cotton wipe to remove hairdye from my neck/ears/forehead etc. I missed a bit a while ago and it wouldn't come off that way, instead I used a combination of everything abrasive in my bathroom cupboard.
Why don't you wrap a scarf around your head, a thin one that covers the top of your head and drapes around your back/shoulders? Can't explain it very well but I know what it looks like in my head!! lol!!
baileys_mum 31-12-2006, 13:01 Nail varnish remover, works for me every time
I just scrub scrub and scrub away. I am quite pale anyway so its nice to have some colour blended in now and then...
sparklygem 31-12-2006, 13:42 never tried nail varnish remover, but i use toner to get it off, always works for me
try putting more on your skin then no-one will notice.. you will just look very tanned :)
*i realise this is un-helpful..but im a bloke.. what do you expect*

I'm told its great for sticking tiny stars and sequins onto your face and body, don't know if thats in your list though!

It is brilliant for anything glittery. Wondering whether to go for some shimmer tonight now...
I have my hair dyed really bright red and nail varnish remover works, but the acetone free one is less harsh on your skin!
Anything that claims to remove the dead skin cells would work to a certain extent: facial scrub and the like. The Clinique blokes Scruffing Lotion is quite good.
Jif?! I'm sure it'll work, being abrasive, but I hope your skin's not sensitive. That stuff dries out the skin on my hands almost on contact, so God knows what it'd do to the skin on my face.
If you do use it, be very careful not to let it get near the skin around your eyes and don't rub it in very much.
this might sound crazy but try ciggarete ash. just get a damp cotton bud, dip it in sum ash(not too much)and rub in affected area. trust me it works. my mum does it all the time
fluffy&pink 31-12-2006, 19:03 Someone has already said it, but i second the milk on a cotton ball! really works!

thats terrible I'd go back and complain maybe get your money back (take some pics as evidence)
any good hairdresser knows that you dont get the dye on the skin, and if you do you wipe it off immediately!
I bet the hairdresser protected her/himself by wearing gloves?!
In answer to your question though, This happened to a friend of mine who died her hair blue/black and got it on her forehead. The only way to get it off was scrubbing with soap and a nailbrush (then she had very red skin...)
Sorry I can't be much more help tho' but good luck!
angelmouse 31-12-2006, 20:13 baby wipes do get it off an don't do your skin too much harm. If needed in the future asda do some non perfumed ones that my friend (child free) swears by for removing red/brown hair dye

i have to say i agree with jen, go back with evidence and complain to the manager. the stylist in this case was highly incompitent. to allow you to walk out of the salon like that is bad practice.
im sure the salon manager will give you some sort of compensation....free hair cut/colour or your money back.
any respectable salon would be highly embarraced that this was allowed to happen.
So, have you managed to get the dye off?
On the occasions when I have dyed my ears and forehead bright red, I usually just use soap and a rough flannel to get it off.
Yes got the dye off! I used baby oil on cotton wool pads and most of it came off!
I won't complain, there wasn't that much, if it was really, really bad then I would but she did a really good job except for that! You could hardly tell unless you held my hair right back.
sparklygem 01-01-2007, 19:56 im currently sat here with bright purple dye on my hair....put vaseline round the edges of my face so it wont stain.....but if it does ill be back trying everything on here to get it off :hihi:
Yellowrose 01-01-2007, 23:05 I was just going to say Vaseline.
