View Full Version : Error safe attacking my PC, HELP?
dynamicdebz 30-12-2006, 21:25 Can someone advice me on a problem that I have with my PC?
Everytime I am on the net it keeps coming up with error safe web site, suggesting I use there site to stop me having problems with my PC but that is the only problem I am having. None of my PC cleaners or removals get rid of it or even suggest it is there.
I have searched the net & it does seem to be a problem for others & gives all this technical info to get rid of it but it is all gobbledegook to me. I need something simple to halp or advice me.
Any ideas from you technical guys out there.
Hiya,
It's a piece of malware.
Take a look at this Google search.
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=%22error+safe%22+web+site&meta=
dynamicdebz 30-12-2006, 21:53 I've already googled it JoeP but its either too complicated for me to fix or they ask you to download something & I'm unsure whether I should download it or not.
I could do with someone who knows anything about it posting me a laymens, step by step guide of getting rid of it or telling me which simple site can help the most.
Thanks for taking the time to check it though.

dynamicdebz 31-12-2006, 20:31 I downloaded this benson then canceled it at the last minute thinking is it something else that will try to corrupt my PC?
Do you know this is safe or are you guessing because it came up in google?
If you have a genuine copy of Windows XP then you can install Microsoft Windows Defender which will sort it out for you. Google Windows Defender download and it will take you there.
dynamicdebz 01-01-2007, 21:19 Ok will try!
I downloaded the error safe removal thing but it just confirmed that I had a problem with it & would have to pay to get rid of it via that software. It also came up in my virus scan that that was also a threat & had a few problems until I did another clean of my PC.
But the error safe problem is still there & as annoying as ever.
I will see about the microsoft windows defender.
There is a number of malware/adware/spyware removers in the list in the link in my siggie.
My choice is Windows Defender, but Spybot Search and Destroy or CCleaner are good alternatives.
dynamicdebz 01-01-2007, 21:59 Currently scanning with defender!
I already have spybot & ccleaner but these haven't helped.
I also have ad-aware & AVG but no joy, will see if defender helps.
dardandec 01-01-2007, 22:11 Everyone to their own but personally I wouldn't advise spybot. The last time I used it it killed my o/s  That was a couple of years ago so I suspect it's been improved since then.
I'm always in favour of regularly formatting my pc anyway to get rid of any kak, and it keeps it running fast and sweet too
dynamicdebz 01-01-2007, 23:12 How would I format my PC?
dardandec 01-01-2007, 23:46 How would I format my PC?
If you dont know anything about that type of thing then I would leave well alone :)
dynamicdebz 02-01-2007, 20:47 OK, still got the error safe problem & absolutely loads of ads attacking my PC.
bensonhedges 03-01-2007, 08:57 Ok, if you're not brave enough to try anything we suggest, maybe the people on this forum - http://www.spywareinfo.com/ - can help you. They are AFAIK trustworthy and have gotten rid of nasties from my PC before. Good luck.
dynamicdebz 03-01-2007, 21:15 What do you mean if I'm not brave enough?
Apart from formatting my PC which I was adviced against if I don't know what I am doing, I have done everything else suggested.
The site you reffered me to benson actually caused me a lot more problems & showed as corrupted in my ad-aware scan???
I think I may have now conquered it by doing numerous things but will keep the site you mentioned in mind.
As this is the 1st time on the net since I think I've solved the problem.
dynamicdebz 09-01-2007, 22:45 Well the post before this post was my last as my PC gave up the fight that very night. Couldn't even switch the damned thing on, not even to get to safe mode.
To cut along story short a PC repairer came this evening & has fixed it all.
My graphics card was knackered.
He got rid of the error safe & a few other problems.
Put a couple of things onto my PC to help me & also gave me loads of fab advice.
I apparently need some more memory, he has told me exactly what to get & where from.
Well worth the £40 I paid.
Phaedrus 10-01-2007, 03:54 £40 is very cheap. I hope you kissed his feet and gave him tea and biscuits.
Anyway, my advice is now too late, but for your future reference this is what I would have posted:
This advice applies to anyone with any kind of pop-up or virus problem, in fact most things which interrupt or slow down your computer.
If you like you can spend hours/days/weeks with all manner of anti-virus, spyware and adware type programs. In my experience you will save yourself a lot of time and heartache by ignoring them all and doing the following:
1) If you haven't got a backup hard drive, get one and install it.
2) Transfer all your precious photos and data (NOT programs or windows) to the backup drive.
3) If you use Outlook for email you will need to find 3 files in a hidden folder (outlook.pst, archive.pst and extend.dat) and make copies onto the backup drive in order to preserve your emails and contacts.
4) Learn how to boot from your Windows CD (loads of sites will walk you through this procedure) and do a fresh install of Windows XP on C drive. Don't just repair or re-install Windows - make sure you completely delete all partitions, so Windows will then be installed onto a freshly formatted partition and drive.
5) Re-install all your drivers, programs and transfer your data back (including the 3 Outlook files if applicable).
All of the above will take a couple of hours, maybe 3 or 4 if it's your first time. That is a lot less time than you will spend downloading all sorts of programs claiming to be your saviour and fiddling around with them, only to find a day or 2 later the pop-ups re-appear. Unlike any of them, this method works 100% GUARANTEED every time. Also, don't be surprised if your computer suddenly runs like a cheetah - a fresh install is like getting a new machine again.
