Scenic spots to see in the New Year

This may sound a bizarre request but my husband and I are having our first sober and quiet New Year so we are looking for alternatives to parties or going out for dinner. If the storms don't crash down we were considering driving out to a nice vantage point too see in the New Year. Anyone any suggestions?

you know we are thinking of doing the same and it may sound insane but camping out,we are heading for the penines out on manchester rd, views supposed to be amazing, hope you have a good nite

On of the best viewing points in Sheffield is Ringinglow You can park up near to the public house (PH) , and if you are a little more adventurous take a short walk up to Lady Cannings Plantation.

This sounds like such a good idea - if you picked the right spot or had any reason to mark a special day, I imagine it could be really moving, especially if you waited to atch the sun rise (not so easy at this time of year!) I might even suggest it for a summer walking group jolly. Thanks, SamMT, for the inspiration.

I don't know what the moon is like at this point, but if it's quite full going to a hill overlooking the lakes would be quite magical.
