View Full Version : Re broadband cheeky boy 18-09-2004, 08:16 is there anyone out there running broadband on win 98 alchresearch 18-09-2004, 10:21 My brother was on ADSL with Windows 98 but he's now gone onto XP. Why do you ask? micksheff 18-09-2004, 10:31 Yes I do and I guess many thousands of other users. cheeky boy 18-09-2004, 16:43 the reason i ask is blueyonder cable, says i cannot have broadband with win 98, only win98se + alchresearch 18-09-2004, 17:36 That's probably because of the drivers for their modem if you connect with USB. Which you don't want to do. Make sure they use the network cable, assuming you have a network card in your PC. But if you're planning to get broadband you really should consider upgrading your operating system to at least Windows 2000. Otherwise you are not going to get the benefit of essential Windows updates and you leave yourself open to attack. mega_monty 18-09-2004, 19:26 Originally posted by alchresearch That's probably because of the drivers for their modem if you connect with USB. That depends on how you're connecting to blue yonder, if using the wireless kit its connected by USB. cheeky boy 20-09-2004, 09:03 thanks a lot 4 all advice ,,,iam uprading to xp hpefully mr.blaze 20-09-2004, 16:58 Originally posted by alchresearch That's probably because of the drivers for their modem if you connect with USB. Updates are still released for 98! 98 now is probably less susceptable to attack than XP users. Also you could just get a self install package buying your own ADSL modem which does work under 98 and use that instead of the BY issued one. |
