I've just discovered the beautiful Bayerische Socks (http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2006/09/bayerische_sock_part_ii.html). The aran-like pattern is gorgeous. Another one to add to the to do list, I think.
The Print o the Wave stole free pattern is beautiful too.
What a pattern!! bookmarked it for my to do list. Thanks Hecate, will these be on your needles any time soon?

I'm mid mitten at the moment (Anemoi mittens, same site as the socks) but when I've done them I was planning on making the Bayerische socks. I've not done much cabling from a chart so I thought that I could do with the practice. The only thing that's stopped me casting so far on has been the lack of plain coloured sock wool in the household. I had hoped to bring some back from Germany but that sort of didn't happen.
They are gorgeous, it would surely take me forever to knit those though. They've been bookmarked though...for one day in the future! :)

Well, I've just started the RPM (http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer06/PATTrpm.html) socks from Knitty, as I suddenly had the urge to knit socks, but didn't fancy anything quite as complicated as these (though the RPM ones do have a short row heel, which I've just done and am rather taken with :) ).
The Bayerische Socks are definitely on the to do list, though I think I'll have to work myself up to attempt them  .

I have a little of the standard Opal plain yarn in the stash, but I think the Bayerische Socks are going to have to have something a little more special. I think I hear the siren call of Lorna's Laces again...

I'm using one of the skeins of Posh Yarn sock yarn that I bought several months ago. I can't remember the name of the colourway now, but it's a sort of pale blue/pale green/grey/light brownish mix. It's rather pretty, but a little subdued, I think.

I think these would look lovely in a deep red - possibly something like this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/REGIA-SILK-SHINE-Sock-Wool-Yarn-Merino-Silk-shade-132_W0QQitemZ280020032082QQihZ018QQcategoryZ36598Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem)

That's a lovely colour (reminds me of the Baudelaire socks from Knitty a while back), though I think that yarn might be a little too shiny for me, especially with the lurex.
