View Full Version : Installing Orange Livebox
I've managed to create a wired connection to my Livebox, but can't setup a wireless connection, the laptop can see the Livebox but wont connect.
Livebox installation prog is telling me to turn off my firewall to install it. I've gone through the right click menu from the wireless network connection and it says it's turned off, but if I go to Security Centre it says it's still on and says it's Norton. Norton was installed originally but I un installed it and used the Norton removed tool to finish off the un install.
Anyone else had problems installing the Livebox? Anything else I can do to get rid of Norton?
fuddyduddy 30-12-2006, 14:43 Yes I have the orange live box,and yes I had problems connecting caused by the pre installed norton anti virus on a new laptop.
What I did was uninstall the program with the add/remove program via the control panel. Then I did a search for any files containing norton or symantec(click on start and then search) and deleted them. You will find that the main uninstaller will leave behind 3 or 4 files behind so thats why you have to do a search. After that,no problem in getting up and running. That norton antivirus program from what I have read seems to muck up a lot of computers,I don't know how they keep in business.
yummyyumyum 30-12-2006, 14:47 im with orange and have norton pre installed on my pc. i have to say i didnt turn anyanti virus stuff off my computer and i managed to install fine just by following instructions on my installation disc.
have to say though i had to mess about with the wired connection first before i transfered it to wireless
hope you sort it.

No luck yet, I've been reading http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk/, glad I haven't paid for the bloody thing!
the_mandarin 31-12-2006, 02:54 Welcome to the world of misery (read Orange Broadband)
Anyway, now that you are in, you can try this:
First check whether your LiveBox is using WEP or WPA security. It should be ideally using the "WEP" or "Either WEP or WPA" option.
Next check the security setting on your adapter, and also if you have input your WEP key correctly. Are you using the Inventel adapter that came along with it or some third-party thing?
I've been in the world of misery since Orange took over, I had 3 weeks of no broadband and went through the "call back for line test results" tech help.
I've tried all the security settings, including no security. It works with no security but thats not a good idea is it?
I'm getting the acquiring network address when I try to connect, then it disconnects and tries again, over and over.
I've put the key into a notepad document and copied and pasted it when requested to put it in.
Didn't get an adapter with it, using a PackardBell wireless laptop.

I have faced this problem. Are you still stuck with this? This generally occurs when the Livebox has been configured to use WPA (it should be using WEP) or when the Adapter has the incorrect security settings. Let me know if you are still facing problems with it, and I can try to help you out.
fred_notdead 02-01-2007, 15:16 You're better off with a normal modem/router. If you ever leave wanadoo/orange you stuck with a useless livebox.
You have to give the Live(dead?)Box back if you leave Orange, the rental is included in the monthly subscription.
the_mandarin, yes I'm still having problems, I've temporarily given up because I can't be bothered just now, but any help or advice you can send my way will really appreciated.
the_mandarin 02-01-2007, 16:59 If you tell me where it is that you are getting stuck, I can try and guide you further from there.
For starters, you can turn off the security on your livebox and check if you are able to connect wirelessly after that. This will ensure that both your LiveBox and the adapter are working fine.
After that, your LiveBox needs to be configured to use WEP security (not WPA) I will update this post again from home as I need to check my own settings for the Wireless adapter.
I hope this helps.
Ghostrider 07-02-2007, 15:04 Cant get mine to do sod all - everytime I put in the installation cd and click "install livebox for the first time" all I get is the help file popping up telling me how to disable my firewall - which I already had
SuzukiRider- Uninstall Flash Player 9 and run the setup CD again.
Ghostrider 11-02-2007, 19:06 THanks for that - the cd still wouldnt run, rang orange and they sorted it in under 5 minutes.
Broadband working at 8.1 meg.....im a happy bunny !
What did they tell you to do? I'm interested as my CD doesn't always run.
