Currently its seems to me that the only way you can tell most popular DJ's apart now is by their Ego. There appears to room only ego not music nowadays & this seems to me to becoming more & more relevant on how successful you actually become, so are most DJ's hyped up? & Is their any originality or is everything just hype these days? & how do you all feel about the cults of superstar DJ's???

Its been a long time since I have been into the dance scene music but it appears its all ego driven nowadays. There are great dj's all over the place but it seems to have become an elitist arena. There seems to be less and less upcoming dj's nowadays, it seems to be the established big ego dj's that have been hogging the limelight for the last god knows how many years.

It's disgraceful. Some of them won't even do weddings or barmitzvahs any more.
On a more serious note, how can DJs be described as original when they simply play records? If they actually had talent they'd be making music, not playing other people's!

I agree to a certain extent that it is much easier to play otherr peoples records than produce their own but I'd say most of the best DJ's do produce records as well.

That's always been the way, hasn't it?
I've always thought of DJs as being arrogant, egotistical to**pots, who rely on other people's talent to have music to play

I'd say it started to become more prelevant in the Mid 90's & has gone from bad to worse in the last couple of years, probaly because people now worship anyone remotely famous as well as people are more concerned with big names rather than anything else.
A D.J. is only as good as his/her record collection.
