View Full Version : Manor operatic society pantomime
I went to see this years pantomime at the city hall last night with my son and was blown away. If anyone is going over the next few days you are in for a real treat along with your kids. I have seen a few over the years and this one was by far the best especially the dark light part my sons jaw dropped a mile (thats all ill say no spoilers).
So if anyone from the manor operatic society reads this thanks for a great night out see you next year.
LordChaverly 28-12-2006, 10:52 The manor has an operatic society? Well I never! As an opera lover (excluding anything by Wagner, Birtwhistle and a few others) I am very pleasantly surprised.
Thorpist 28-12-2006, 11:49 The Manor panto is the very best Christmas pressie you could give to any child or adult come to think of it.
squeakyclean 28-12-2006, 11:59 Can you buy tickets from the box office for this?

FairyNormal 28-12-2006, 22:32 We're going in the new year and I can't wait! Never been before and am so looking forward to it!
Whatif wewin 29-12-2006, 00:26 I have been every year since coming to Sheffield in 1988, except for missing last 2 years.
It is one of the best things about Sheffield.
surfinjim 29-12-2006, 01:04 Off on New Years Eve for my boys 5th birthday. Hope they still do the bucket game.......
They don't....:(

etc etc etc etc
Jim:thumbsup:
miniminch 29-12-2006, 05:48 I do think its sad for the kids to see Cinderella's coach on bricks in someones front garden and prince charming jacking up at the palace. But the chorus of toothless, red-faced hags singing 'Somewhere over the ASBO' was quite refreshing to watch.

Thanks
Yes we got ours there 10 mins before last nights performance.
It was good, but Brian Platts wasn't in it and the audience was a bit thin/ quiet.

They're based in Rotherham actually, not the Manor in Sheffield... Their web site is here (http://www.manoroperatic.com) might have to double check the link on Google, I wrote it from memory and not 100% certain if it's right.
Elphi 24 03-01-2007, 20:55 Actually they are Sheffield based, the majority of the cast are from Sheffield. Brian Platts and his sister in law who has kind of taken over from Brian are from Sheffield. Only the ticket secretary, Mabel Delamore is Rotherham based from the management committee

I am surprised at this comment LordC. I realise that it may be a good few years since i studied Latin, but I seem to recall that "opera" was the plural form of "opus" meaning "the works".
I believe that when you see Manor's shows you do get the works.
cosywolf 05-01-2007, 12:03 I'm sorry to report that Brian Platts suffered a serious stroke some time ago, which is why it's been all change at Manor Operatics this last year. I was pleased to see him at one of the Continental Markets in town in the Fall, but have since heard that he's been back in hospital with pneumonia...is possibly still there.
It's good to hear that the panto is still a success this year, after Brian's years of hard work and good deeds, it would be nice to see Manor continue as a tribute to him...though of course, we would much rather see it with Brian at the helm again, swearing up a storm and surrounded by a cloud of smoke...
Get well soon, Brian, and keep up the good work, Manor!
slimsid2000 05-01-2007, 13:29 They have a reputation amongst amateur groups for staging a near professional panto which is much more ambitious than other amateur ones. That said there are many good amateur pantos by groups which have far less resources than Manor but which are still very popular with the audience.
Many local groups have built up a loyal following for their pantos over the years and are steadily getting more and more slick with them.
