Ghozer 31-12-2006, 20:46 What make / model is the laptop?? dale07 31-12-2006, 21:17 hp pavilion dv6000 it says on the laptop but on the box it says dv6104eu BluePolo 31-12-2006, 23:26 Out of the 5 laptops I've had so far, none has had the option to change the amount of graphics ram. I think this one (HP Compaq) is the only one that has even given me the option of choosing to boot from the CD or HDD. I don't know why, but you only seem to get a minimal amount of choices in a laptop bios. One of the laptops wouldn't let you into the bios at all. Not even to set the date or time - it had to be done through DOS or windows! Ghozer 31-12-2006, 23:27 Ever laptop i have ever had or seen has the option to increse Video Ram, why would they set it at 32 then say "Maximum of 128Mb Shared" BluePolo 01-01-2007, 00:12 I admit I was wrong - My last laptop was an HP NX9005. It did have the option to change the shared graphics memory (although I broke the laptop by pulling it off the workbench by tripping over the power cable when going to answer the phone, I still have the manual). This laptop (HP Compaq NC8000) does not have the option. There are hardly any options on this bios - nothing like on the nx9005. The only thing this has that the nx didn't have is the ability to choose to boot from the CD or HDD. Although this is a later machine, the bios is limited compared to the nx9005. I have had a compax which I think was the one where you couldn't get into the bios, a Toshiba with a limited bios, and a Dell with a limited bios. ( I've had another laptop in the past, but I can't remember what it was - with a limited bios). So in my experience the bios in most laptops does not let you choose the shared graphics memory size. But that doesn't mean that his can't, but if it's not in the bios then he will be limited in doing it. There may be something he can download from the HP website to make changes to the bios, I have vague recollections of seeing something available for one of my laptops, but I don't remember which one it was for. |
