Can anyone offer advice on how to set up WAP on a mobile phone? I have a Nokia 3410 and have decided to move into the world of WAP with o2.

I've managed to get them to send me the service settings which are saved on my phone. I've also been onto the web site and tapped in a few sites into the bookmarks section.

The thing is that when I come to try to connect to WAP then I just get 'check service settings' errors and nothing works.

I've never ever used WAP before so don't really know what to expect.

If you know what this means and can help, please explain very very simply. I'm blonde.

I don't get it either - I'm blonde too.

I managed to get there by accident once but wasn't impressed.

Wap is C**P

Dont bother you will just get fustrated and waste about 5 hours of your life, however you do need your phone enabled for data, ask your provider.

Enabled for data??? I can phone like normal and the text messaging works. I just want to have a go at WAP and I just need to know how to set it up. I'm sure it is c**p, but it would be good to see it for myself. Sigh.

Just ring your providers helpline and they will talk you through it.

But you have been warned - Double sigh

Hmmm, providers helpline, expensive pence per minute. I just hoped that someone on here may know what to do.

Was that aimed at 'Room 101' ? Tried it for the laugh but the number isn't recognised.

ok press menu
then select
'services'
then select
'home'
and there you are...
select anything on the menu to connect.

can you believe I only found out about Shazam on mobiles yesterday! What a great and clever thing it does. (recognises tunes for you and texts you the artist and track.)

When I clicked 'Home' it said 'check service settings'. I've just had the service settings texted to me today by O2 but don't know where to go next. I've saved them in my settings list and activated them, but still no joy.

I love wap :D

I even have my own wapsite under construction ;)

but yeah, you need to get them to enable data, you might be better phoning from the landlane and getting them to do it mid-call with you.

:(

Wap is good, for some stuff (such as checking email when the PC is knackered, or im away from the PC etc.) and reading the news on the tram

i think XHTML browsers on phones are the next step...

imagine that, browsing SF on the tram :D

Someone already invented it, its called Pocket PC

I can browse the web with my Ipaq, but its a bit slow (9.6k)

IMHO Wap will die like a a Sinclair C5 - remember them?

Wish I had one.:D

i know its already "invented" but its not really used on mobiles other than the S-E P800 and the orange SPV

I tried ringing the helpline at the weekend and after spending £17 on their 50p per minute line due to them putting me on hold and redirecting me, they still were not able to activate it. They said it should work but there's nothing that can be done til Monday - still nothing happening on my phone. My emails to them are ignored. I don't want to ring the helpline again as it's not helpful. Do I picket the shop on Fargate, even though they cannot help?

orange are offering wap free til aug 31st and my phone came with a TMobile sim. i changed it to orange to get the 5 free message offer but when it wouldnt accept the orange sim i had to go and have it unlocked at this dodgy place in sheff centre something beginning with Z.
the waps still set up as the username and password for tmobile so how do i set it up for orange to take advantage of their free offer? does anyone know?

I ended up going into the o2 shop and they set me up on the WAP, sending me a completely different set of settings. Now I have a 50/50 chance of my phone connecting to WAP. Some network problem at their end methinks.
