I was reading an article in YPS magazine tonight about the ghost plane in the Hope Valley and it reminded me about the day I went to Hathersage a couple of weeks ago to watch the tour of Britain cycle race.
The helecopter was above the village as the cyclists got closer and out from the hills of Hope came a Lancaster bomber.
At first I wondered what the hell it was until it flew almost above me over the carpark at the Millstone on in the direction of the Supprise.
Now anyone stood at that spot would also have seen this unusuall spectacle and just a few feet above us flew this milatary plane.
Now I'm not suggesting it was a ghost plane but it was spooky and it looked like the real thing to me.
Anyone else see it.

There is a book that you can buy at all good bookshops about plane crashes in Derbyshire.

Thats so strange! Ive had a similar experience. It was about 2 months ago now. It was around 9pm and it was still quite light. My mate had just dropped me off and I was walking down the drive and I heard this massive rubble/droaning and looked up and wondered what the hell it was! To my suprise it was a Lancaster Bomber! With me being 18 I never knew what they sounded like but it was immediatly identifiable as the lancaster! I thought there was only 1 remaining? City of Lincoln? So to see this thing fly over my house (literally) less than 100m above and then to suddenly turn around over the cricket club which is a few houses away from my house and go back in the direction it just came seemed very strange to me. Amazed that I had seen one I did some investigations for air shows around my area...which all drew blanks but one which came to mind was the Southport Air Show which is usually around the bank holiday monday of august and the date I saw this plane didnt coincide with it.
This is the flight path it took

It could have been part of the Battle of Britain memorial flight. You can get flight details from their website.
But it would be unusual for it to be flying alone. Where ever they go, they go together. Seeing a Lancaster flanked by Spitfires is an awe inspiring site that makes you proud to be British.

I was once on a bus from Castleton and an old WW2 plane flew overhead quite low. It seemed to come from nowhere and disapear again just as quickly.
Spooky.

Oh yes, that brought a tear to my eye.
Ironic that Spitfires and Lancasters can still fly but Concorde can't :(

Any idea of the date? The Battle of Britain flight were in this area on 5 September - see list of display dates here (http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/displaydates.html)

A nice rare treat. Didn't see it, wish I had done though. :)
