View Full Version : Shooting in derbyshire
we went out shooting yesterday afternoon next to the Fox house and I have to say it was one of the best afternoons out i've had. Really good fun, great blokes who run it, and really interesting to find out a little about the sport.
I'd recommend it any time.
Cheers Ray and everyone there!

RazorSHarp 20-12-2006, 13:29 That's where I go shooting, it's a really relaxed shoot aswell and far from expensive.
That's probably the last shoot now as the next one is meant to be on new yrs eve and I can't see ray wanting to put a shoot on then.
Nah, only the wife! :P:thumbsup: thats ok then!:hihi:
sheep, grouse, deer, chavs, wednesday supporters - we were aiming for them all.
i only seemed to be able to hit the little clay discs they were launching across the field though.
Christ.

BasilRathbon 20-12-2006, 13:52 Well I opened this thread wishing to post my condolences to the victim and commenting on what a sad reflection on society this incident was, and now find I have nothing useful to say.
PuressenceUK 20-12-2006, 14:04 Well I hope you weren't shooting living creatures:rant:
Well it's a bit difficult to eat a rabbit/deer/grouse when they are still alive!!
What's the problem if they were and they were going to eat them?
I'm from Tansley, and they do shooting at the farm near my house all the time, it makes a right racket. My parents go to their charity thing sometimes, it seems quite la-di-da, stereotypical country-side folk.

I was wondering. Is it legal to just go around shooting things willy-nilly or does it have to be on licensed land or summat?

Was it a Beretta 686 over and under that you were using ? It's an excellent piece of kit.
Livewirex 20-12-2006, 14:28 Anyone have a recipe for cooking those clay pigeons?:D
liam1412 20-12-2006, 14:35 Marinated in orange sauce served on a bed of cripsy leaves and served with a fresh white dog poo. Mmm Mmmmmmmmm

Oi watch it you, I'll have you know we in Birmingham have had gun crime since before it was fashionable !!!!! :hihi:

How did you manage to only shoot at thirty clays, it's a 50 bird set, did you miss some out.
PS a shotgun and a rifle are two very different things.

we did three gates, ten shots from each. I know a shotgun and a rifle are very different, but sports shotgun didn't sound right for some reason.
Mongoose 20-12-2006, 16:23 I used to work at Fox House Clay Sports many moons ago, Ray was my next door neighbour. Is Trapper still about? (not the trappers, Trapper! Big bloke with a 'tach)

I think you mean a 'Sporting Shotgun' rather than a Skeet Gun which has upwards angled barrels.
A sporting gun is straight barrelled and easier to use for a novice.
slimsid2000 20-12-2006, 16:42 Well I hope you weren't shooting living creatures:rant:
It was 'Chav' shooting. The Chavs are given a ten minute head start and then everyone sets off in their Range Rovers after them and takes aim with shotguns. It is the latest thing amongst the gentry since fox hunting was banned.

Grouse, deer only 2points each chavs Bus Drivers grannys solicitors and estate agents 10 points Coppers and traffic wardens 20 points Owls fans [rare and look like pigs 50 points],,,, your score?
NorbertColon 20-12-2006, 17:31 I was wondering. Is it legal to just go around shooting things willy-nilly or does it have to be on licensed land or summat?
The land only has to be specifically licensed by the local Police authority if using centre-fire rifles (usually for large ground vermin (fox) and game (deer), because the safety template for centre-fire is at least a couple of miles.
Rimfire cartridges rifles can be used at the discretion of an experienced shooter with an 'open ticket', or subject to Police clearance of the land for less experienced shooters.
Shot gun use does not need Police clearance.
However, in all cases (and the same applies to air guns), the shooter must have the written permission of the landowner and can only shoot pest species, or game during the appropriate season.

There's little challenge in shooting dead ones - they don't move.

Thats a great score, Pook. Clay Pidgeon shooting is harder than people realise.
donuticus 20-12-2006, 18:04 How much is it ? Do I have to book in advance or can I just turn up ?
Missed the blades too!

Suggest you aim close to any piece of wood
- that's where they crawl from!
Mongoose 23-12-2006, 02:24 How much is it ? Do I have to book in advance or can I just turn up ?
Back in my day you could just turn up, you purchase the ammo and would borrow a gun from Ray or someone else would let you use theirs :]

Ooohhhh, more details please!
We tried this in Scotland - 2 days before our wedding, and much merriment was made when I was found to be a 'natural' :D
I'd love to have another go :)
Wodoish!!! 23-12-2006, 06:23 I think I'll go out today and shoot a pheasant shooter just for the fun of it! :D
