What time are you finishing for the Xmas break. My staff want to finish at 12noon on Friday 22nd. I don't agree with this, yeh OK finish at 12 on the 24th but on the 22nd seems a tad early!! Am I being too harsh with them?

We're heading home at 12.30 yipeeeeee! We're quite lucky but i guess it's at the discretion of the manager/supervisor.

Johnh - Maybe a bit harsh, it's the last working day before christmas!

Could be, may have a rethink tonight!! Its just that the Christmas break seems to be getting like 'Bonfire Week' and 'Halloween Week' Its getting extended more and more every year and becoming more americanised. Bahhhh! Humbug!!

4pm friday. Really shouldn't need to finish at 12pm when its only 22/12.

Make a deal with them; If they want to finish early fine but their pay stops at 12 too:thumbsup:

If you're paying them personally, I'd draw every drop out of them I could, on the other hand, if you're just a jumped up supervisor, what's it to you? there's alcohol to be drunk!

We finish at 12.30 but everywhere else is shut give them a break John why have miserable staff who arnt really being productive anyway. When you let them go early and they respect you abit more and will stay later when you do really need them. I run an office and all year my staff work hard and when required what is one afternoon

Finish 12.30 Friday and return 2nd Jan, had to use up two days unused holiday but would have lost it anyway. Sorry for any of you guys who are manning the sales etc in town; but I promise that I won't be bothering you.

All the best to everyone.

I totally agree with Work1, you will earn more respect from your staff. It is only Christmas once a year so where's the harm in leaving early on the last day.:loopy:

We have to stay here till 4.30 on Friday even tho all the clients that our team deal with finish at 12.00. Can you beleive that. Now i accept what turbo was saying about you shouldn't get to finish earlier automatically. But to keep us for the sake of it is just reidiculous. And guess what The gaffer conveniently has a hospital appt at 2 so is finishing dinner. WTF IS that about!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I being too harsh with them?If you would normally give them half a day off each year they are losing out because of Christmas Eve being on Sunday which they would have off anyway. I'm working a full day on Saturday.

Am I being too harsh with them? Are you really a boss/manager asking on a forum if you should or shouldnt let your staff out early ? Dose your job involve making decisions on your own in other matters ? I like to think if I asked my boss to let me home early it was based totally on his own decision, not by a bunch of strangers. If I was a boss and had staff ask me, It would be down too matters like do they do overtime when needed etc.

Someone once said to me. . "you can tell how important your job is, by when your needed to work". . so spare a thought for those that will be workin' through the christmas period just so you don't have to.

For the record, I'll be done at 4pm on Christmas eve and I'll be back at work on 27th upto new years eve. . !!

Although I don't work for a living, I'm taking a break from Town Hall councillor duties from Thursday afternoon until Jan 2nd.

But..... I'm taking some 'homework' with me as my partner is working on 5 days over the holiday season, including Christmas Day - so it will give me chance to catch up on some paperwork!

I'll also be taking a break from SF. So, best wishes to everyone for Christmas and the New Year! Have a great time!

Oh, and Suprasteve & Kate_shef - enjoy the wedding.

And then I'm not back at work until 8th January. :)

Unfortunately, as I'm a contractor, I don't get paid for my time off. :(
