View Full Version : It's Confession time...
Confession time: I haven't lifted a needle in about three weeks. At all.
I sorted out my storage boxes and drawers the other night and spent some time fondling the Artyarns supermerino and stroking the kidsilk haze. I even tidied the tangled nest that is my pile of circular needles and sorted out the bamboo from the metal DPNs. I didn't make a start on knitting anything though, or pick up any of the UFOs :( .
Is anyone else going through a knitting slump? It isn't like I've lost interest in knitting at all, it's just that I haven't found anything inspiring enough to distract me from other stuff.
Any suggestions for something quick and small? I think I want a break form DPNs and circulars, so no knitting in the round or socks. Thanks :) .
Jabberwocky 20-12-2006, 09:42 Disgraceful! You pick on me because I lapsed a little, just a little and you now admit to an almost complete knit- free month!
Im shocked.

Lapsed a little?! The closest you got to a kniting needle was my repeated threats to shove them in many and varied orrifices  .
Hello Jabbers  .
Jabberwocky 20-12-2006, 09:46 Hello. Its good to see you back at last!
Hello. Its good to see you back at last!
Careful Jabbers; you sounded like you were being nice to me there!
Thank you. I've missed you too  :P .

Its a ploy.
Im planning something nasty as i talk nicely to you.
heh heh heh
Glad to hear you've sorted out your drawers; although why you waited this long is a mystery.
Welcome back, I've missed your wit and well-crafted arguments. :hihi:

Cheers. But if you don't mind, I think I'll remove that smilie from your post :D .
Welcome back Hecate!! Good to see you. I too have had a knitting slump. Maybe Christmas will re-inspire me.
Can't suggest anything small other than a few of the guys on the forum are interested in a January knit-a-long maybe of argosy from the new knitty!
take a look and see what you think.

Hi Turra  . I haven't even looked at the new Knitty yet! How rubbish is that? I shall go and do so now.
EDIT: I'm not too keen on argosy. The edges are a bit fussy for me. I like Eiffel, though it hardly fits my requirement for something small and quick.
I made a start on the Mrs Beeton pattern from Knitty a while back - those beaded wrist warmers. Maybe I should dig those out again.
Lucy-Lastic 20-12-2006, 11:46 Welcome back Hecate:wave: We have all missed you and are so glad you are back from your 'ahem' holiday
You shall just have to get back the knitting bug after all the festivities are out of the way - cant suggest anything though Im afraid.
EDIT: Ive just found this (http://www.ysolda.me.uk/wordpress/index.php/archives/2006/12/10/ariel-scarf/) which looks lovely and quite a quick knit too:D
Good to you back on SF Hecate, we missed ya! :) No ideas on the small knitting though, sorry!
Thanks, Lisa and Rooty :) .
I like the Ariel scarf. I reckon the Artyarns supermerino might come in useful for that; if I don't decide to make yet another pair of Thujas, that is :hihi: .
Afternoon Hecate,
I wanted a change from knitting my daughter's polo neck (2nd one now!) so, measured up my friend's baby to do her a cardigan, started it last night. She's only 19" chest so shouldn't take me long. Got an ache under my right side though, so putting me off sticking my needle under the old pit! (no suggestions on where else to stick it thank you!!!).

Hi Wheezy  . Is your username Harry Potter-inspired, by the way?
I love making baby clothes. They knit up really swiftly and the yarn is lovely and soft. I made a little ballet wrap not so long ago from one of the RYC patern booklets, using (I think) Cashmerino. It was gorgeous, and because it was so small, I didn't have to spend lots of money on loads of balls of the lovely yarn.
Evenin all!! Hi Hecate
No, my name Wheezy came from when my niece and nephew couldn't say aunty Louise and it came out Wheeze. It stook with my then boyfriend, now husband and I get called Wheezy by him, or Wheeze, OR Louise if he's mad!!! Good luck with your little knit!

LOL I see. It reminded me of what one of the house elves in the Harry Potter books call Ron Weasley  .
Looking forward to the last book and next film!
Welcome back Hecate! I've been doing well with my knitting but it's mostly been for xmas presents. Just finished my 2nd pair of socks and itching to start a third....I remember when I once posted on here that I didn't understand the whole sock knitting thing and didn't see the appeal - now it's all I think about!

Me too. The next title's just been announced: 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', I think. I hope it's better than the last one, which I thought was a little slow.

Hi gempud  Thanks for the welcome back :) .
Yay! Another one with the sock-knitting bug :D . The last thing I finished was a second pair of Thuja socks (a Knitty pattern). I've got three more skeins of Artyarns Supermerino just crying out to be turned into yet another pair. Must resist....
I decided to continue with the Mrs Beetons (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/ppn_2204/Mrs-Beetons.jpg). They're made from RYC Cashsoft DK and Kidsilk Haze (right) and a bit of leftover Cherrytree Hill merino (left).
For the body of the wristwarmer (k3 p1 rib - not too clear from the photo), both yarns should be knit together, as you can see on the one made with the kidsilk haze. However, as I've only got a little of the Cherrytree Hill left over, I knit the body of that one using just the RYC yarn. You can probably see it's a little thinner than the other.
They're a easy knit; small enough to knit quickly with enough different techniques to keep me amused. Just have to knit the other two of the pairs now.
Here's the pattern (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter05/PATTmrsbeeton.html) from Knitty
Hi,
Hecate, a welcome-back from me too!
I knitted just little bits and bobs, easy not-thinking stuff, mainly for Christmas. At the moment I'm knitting a very simple little kitten to use as a kind of keyring.

Thank you :) . The kitten keyring thingie sounds interesting and perfect for me. Could you tell me what pattern you're using?

Yes, of course. I found it here. (http://geobabe.livejournal.com/2005/03/19/)
It's not meant to be a keyring thing but I'm going to use it like that. I think it's really cute!

Aw, that's lovely. I've bookmarked the page with the instructions. It'll be perfect to use up the remaining dark grey cashsoft DK I'm using for the Mrs Beetons. Thanks for the link :) .
Ooooooh I;m gonna make that too!
Love the kitty and have bookmarked it.
I found this IPOD cover (http://www.bhkc.co.uk/data/knit_pattern.htm) and thought of you Hecate - I thought it might be something you would like to knit? I've got it on my list to do - it's getting very long this list!!

I like that - it looks cricket-themed, don't you think? Added to the bookmarks and the ever-expanding to do list. Thanks :) .
Knitting that little kitty was quite addictive. I made it three times, an orange one as a flash stick holder and two in the colours of our cats: one's serving as a keyring and the one's just for to look at.
The orange one is knitted with less stitches and in stockinette, so it's about half the size of the others.
At the moment I'm knitting baby booties and a kind of shawl for a baby-to-be-born-soon. The next thing on the list will be this cute little knitted bunny. (http://www.heartstringsfiberarts.com/bunny.shtm) However, the IPod cover is high on my list too.
What's the shawl you're knitting for the baby-to-be, Bami? It was a baby blanket that started the group off back in March last year :) .
I love the little knitted bunny, but he needs eyes! He looks a bit disturbing with out those. I'd embroider them on with a scrap of soft black wool.

Originally I wanted to knit a triangle shawl but looking at the amount of yarn I decided to make an ordinary scarf (http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p99/bami_photos/knitting/bontsokjes.jpg) but smaller.
It's Stylecraft Gypsy DK (long haired in pastel colours and really soft and light in weight) and goes well together with the babybooties I've knitted using the same yarn.
By the way, here's a photo of the kitties (http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p99/bami_photos/knitting/KATTEN.jpg) The green one was to try the pattern, the two multi-coloured ones have the colours of our cats and the orange one is a smaller version.
:partyhat:
You're right about the bunny eyes but I was surprised it was possible to make it from one square
