the obvious thought given the 'dumbness' of the average PC floppy drive ( compared to classic mac floppy drives) is that the new set up isn't 'seeing' the drive properly...

does it try to access the floppy drive ( motor runs little light on the front light up ) when booting up and/ or puttign a floppy in/ trying to access the floppy?

i have the same problems when transfering files from my XP computer to my ME computer - it's almost as if they cannot read the data contained for some reason.

To be honest no one uses floppy disks nowadays when for a few pounds you can get a memory stick that contains the equivalent of 100 or even 1,000 of Floppy disks.
If you really want to get at your disks perhaps the drive has not been used for a long time and has got dirty you can pick a replacement drive up at computer fairs for about £5 just check that your computer can see the drive.
Go Start-Control panel-System-Hardware-Device manager-Floppy disk drives. You should see the drive under the tab. If it’s there then as likely as not it wants cleaning or replacing. I have a friend who chain smokes and he had to replace his regularly as they were stuck with nicotine. Good luck

Sounds to me like the heads of your old machine are out of alignment. Put the floppies back into your old machine and see if they'll read. If they do, copy them onto a USB memory stick and transfer your files across that way.

Try pressing the "Num Lock" key to make the numberical keypad work again.

As Livewirex says, you really are very unlikely to need a floppy disk. I would reckon you just forget about it.

I still use them. As do the kids (school uses floppies).
