Was that ever in the UK charts?
Is that now a supplementary part of your original query?

There is a song called "Carrier Pigeon", I think.

The Pigeon Song (http://www.accessbackstage.com/america/song/song012.htm):

Well, I had me a pigeon
By the name of Fred
But I done shot him
In the head

Had me a dog
He was my best friend
But to him
I done put an end

We should remember also the Gertrude Stein composition 'Four Saints In Three Acts'. which has this memorable verse:

'Pigeons on the grass alas.
Pigeons on the grass alas.
Short longer grass short longer longer shorter yellow grass. Pigeons
large pigeons on the shorter longer yellow grass alas pigeons on the
grass.
If they were not pigeons what were they.
If they were not pigeons on the grass alas what were they. He had
heard of a third and he asked about it it was a magpie in the sky.
If a magpie in the sky on the sky can not cry if the pigeon on the
grass alas can alas and to pass the pigeon on the grass alas and the
magpie in the sky on the sky and to try and to try alas on the
grass alas the pigeon on the grass the pigeon on the grass and alas.
They might be very well they might be very well very well they might
be.
Let Lucy Lily Lily Lucy Lucy let Lucy Lucy Lily Lily Lily Lily
Lily let Lily Lucy Lucy let Lily. Let Lucy Lily'.

Although this was originally a poem, I think it was set to music as an opera by Virgil Thomson. I believe there is also a hip hop version. Indeed, some people have even argued that Gertrude was the grandmother of hip hop.

A title search @ www.allmusic.com (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=30:) returns quite a few songs for pigeon and pidgeon can't link to the results page though so you'll have to search yourself.

Kicking Pigeons by [spunge] is an incredibly dancy ska punk song with 'pigeons' in the title, there's also a so so indie pop band by the name of 'The Pigeon Detectives' doing the rounds at the moment.

A fundamental question which no one has yet raised is whether pigeons are deserving of a song devoted to them. I can think of far worthier members of the avian family. Pigeons can't even sing; they are hopeless mimics; their eggs are too small to bother with; their flesh is too stringy; they are useless as hunting birds; and they don't even have pretty feathers. Moreover, they have terrible table manners and they don't seem to have ever heard of toilet etiquette (having no consideration at all for others when they need to 'go'). We don't have songs about cockroaches (or most other kinds of vermin) so I am mystified why we should wax lyrical about pigeons.

Here are the people who would say
Hello, Goodbye, Hello, Goodbye
Every day

If you lived in Pigeon Street,
Here are the people you could meet,
Here are the people who would share
the sights, the sounds, the air
Where pigeons beat their wings, wings beat.

to meet in Pigeon Street

It is for these very reasons that this much maligned bird should have songs named after it. Great art can come from dark places, and these much hated animals have provided huge inspiration for songwriters.

Spot the Pigeon - by Genesis.

The track is actually called 'Pigeons'. The EP was called Spot The Pigeon.

First track 'Match of The Day'

Then 'Pigeons'

Flip side 'Inside and Out', one of the best tracks Genesis ever did and the last one that Steve Hackett played on I believe.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it it the only piece of vinyl I still have. It's sat in front of me. I have no way of playing it. But it's rare as Rocking horse ****:D
