A tough one!!!! I'm a big Killers fan (i voted for them) but i've been following My Chemical Romance for a couple of years now and i'm so pleased that this year has been a success for them, Fratellis are excellent too i'll be seeing them on new years eve in Edinburgh

because they haven't done much if anything in 2006. You seam to have this Idea there there the best band ever. There are a good band but not the best of 2006.

Little Man Tate. The Monkeys are good, but they blow them out of the water.

My Chemical Romance have put out a better album then I expected.. so i put them...bin a pretty crappy year for albums I think... unless you like the big clutch of bands working from the same ideas.

This year? Has to be the Hold Steady. Boys and Girls in America is going to be on the top of a lot of peoples lists this year.

Can we change the poll to show who voted for what? So I know who to brutally murder for voting for the Feeling.

Ouch!
Been a top year for me bandwise.
Bands who need a mention: We are scientists, Jet for coming back from the depths of depression, Arctic Monkeys for having a gorgeous singer lol and putting Sheffield back on the music map again, Ordinary Boys for letting the lovely Preston on Big Brother - yes it seems AGES ago now even though new album is too poppy, The Feeling for such a summery MOR album, Milburn for their first album, The Rifles for two top gigs, Fratellis for bringing the Housemartins style back into fashion (I'm sorry but they so are:thumbsup: ) Kasabian for a top second album. Kooks for a great album and mad gig.
In fact I've liked loads this year. :)

With the exception of the Scissor Sisters (who to me sound like a cr*p Leo Sayer tribute act) all the bands listed in the poll are white male whiny indie guitar bands.
Now I may be out of touch with the kids these days, but are there not bands in other genres - dance, reggae, rap, folk, metal, etc? Do black people make music? Or women?

My, what varied tastes some people on this forum have.......

i didnt think it was possible... I thought this thread may have been the only thread in SF history to NOT turn into a race issue.... but then... out of the blue..BLAM! "why don't black people make music"

and for the person who wants to kill the feeling - im there with you! - if you have to listen to Hallam FM for 8 hours a day at work and you realise that they play there song every 20 minutes, you'd want to kill them too.

I voted for The Feeling because I thought their first single sounded very much like Howard Jones singing "The Riddle".

That's a pretty narrow list of bands....would have been better as just a post than a poll as that list leaves rather a lot of very good bands/artists in other genres out completely.

When I was out shopping in town this afternoon, one of the shops I was in was playing the "Scissor Sisters" - and I suddenly realised that you are absolutely right - they do sound EXACTLY like a cr*p Leo Sayer tribute band!! :o :hihi: Nicely spotted!

Snow Patrol's new album is very good, but the Kooks have got the acknowledgement they deserve this year!

Infadels are the best new band I've discovered this year (and trust me, I've been exploring plenty). Their gig at Plug was wicked

I think The Killers new album is tosh. Was very disappointed. :(

Depends on how we are voting...if it's new stuff/impact then it's The FeelingI 'cos they've had 3 really decent singles from the album, so I (Anne) voted for them. The Killers (adored the 1st and 2nd not as great album...due to see in 02/07)and Muse(amazing album and live set at The arena)
Still LOVE

I haven't heard most of those bands.
Why have you chosen such a restrictive and narrow minded selection.

Absolutely My Chemical Romance. Saw them at Leeds and Rock City this year and going to see them on their Arena tour in Notts next March. Fantastic new album. Dodgy new barnet for Gerard.

The Arctic Monkeys only released the fastest selling debut album of all time in 2006 (haven't done much if anything in 2006??) - which planet are you on Zinger?

And the Long Blondes need adding to your poll.

Hey there is nothing wrong with a bit of Mister Crosby at Christmas. Infact he is the act of 2006. :D
