Hi all,

Don't know what happened over the weekend, but now I'm looking to do 2 things:

- Do some voluntary work in retirement homes/childrens hospitals/sanctuarys/animal shelters

- Learn Spanish fluently

Just quite bored of either doing nothing with my time, or going out and getting drunk at the weekend.

Now, without doing endless hours of surfing, could anyone please provide me with any contacts/info on doing both in or around the Sheffield area?

Thanks in advance

1.Local colleges are just enrolling for loads of language classes.

2. Join a local charity group for any of the catagories you mentioned.

BBC Open Centre is starting a Spanish Course on Wednesday afternoon. I doubt it will get you fluent, but it will definitely get you started. Best of all, it's free. Call the Action Desk on 0114 267 5444

I started learning Spanish last year with the University Of Sheffield. If you pick up a brochure from their Institute for Lifelong Learning on West St, near BRB, you may be able to register for this year's course. Classes start on 27/28th Sept I think so you'll need to be quick.

The level 1 course was really good. Well taught and well structured. £48 for the year if you're not earning loads, £200 ish if you're on more than c.£15000. Probably looking at a few years' study (2 hours per week) for fluency (I'm not even close after 1 year).

so are they evening studies on set day? I'm just not sure how much you'd actually learn in 19 hours
