View Full Version : Which Christmas song do you never tire of?
slimsid2000 15-12-2006, 16:26 Is there one Christmas song that no matter how many times you here it you always like it?
I nominate Wizzard's 1973 classic, "I wish it could be Christmas everyday".
the pogues and kirsty mcoll fairytale of new york no question!
Shaky 'tiptoe' Stevens 'Merry Christmas Everyone'

twisted sister singing this is fanbloodytastic

Either The Pogues or Greg Lake's 'I believe in Father Christmas'.
BasilRathbon 15-12-2006, 17:28 Billy Idol singing "Frosty The Snowman".
barnie41 15-12-2006, 18:08 No question - Kirsty McColl and the Pogues. Christmas starts for me when I finish work and put that on every year. Its top.
Not strictly Christmassy but Sir Cliff's Millennium Prayer does it for me, one of the best Christmas #1s he's ever done IMO.
And no, Cliff Richard does not suck, in fact Cliff > most of the charts lately, all crappy boybands who can't sing for toffee, I still haven't forgiven McFly for ruining Queen's "Don't stop me now"
cressida 15-12-2006, 18:34 Slade's Merry Xmas Everyone
Let it Snow - love it, fave xmas song!
or Shakin Stevens - Merry Xmas Everyone, like that one too!
shells2909 15-12-2006, 19:57 Band Aid "Do they know its Christmas" is my favourite! no idea why, cos its sooo depressing!!

Mighty_Boosh 15-12-2006, 20:25 Or Jona Lewie's Stop the Cavalry
Santa Baby but I don't know who sang the version I've got but it's very slinky.
East 17 Stay Another Day was a good song, OK it wasn't terribly Christmassy but it did get the Christmas top spot iirc back in the mid 90s.
A Spaceman came Travelling (which is more Christmasy than it sounds)
By Chris De Burgh ( which is amazing cos' I didn't think he could write a good song)
purple_frog 15-12-2006, 21:28 Im backing E17's Stay also, but I also like a version of Little Drummer Boy that I think was done by Bing Crosby and David Bowie ... tis highly corny, i know, but it gets me every time!
Santa Baby, or Merry Christmas Everyone.

wham! - last christmas is a classic
and the ramones - i dont want to fight (tonight) is a good one as well.
i only had the pleasure of being introduced to that E17 song last year and yeah that song is god awful.
My old heart melts everytime I hear the strains of, ' Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer'.
I always imagine old Rudolph whizzing over the roof-tops of Sheffield and all the grid-locked traffic [ lucky reindeer ! ] and dropping things down people's chimney pots.I know it doesn't literally happen, of course, but it's the image that counts.
I'm sure some Punk Band, a few years ago, also brought out a lovely Xmas number, called, if I remember rightly, ' I'm gonna kick some ass this Xmas and puke over dat Santa dude '.Different sentiment to 'Rudolph' of course but still related to this lovely, special English time of year.
East 17 Stay Another Day was a good song, OK it wasn't terribly Christmassy but it did get the Christmas top spot iirc back in the mid 90s.
I second that one, just love the tune.

When the songs first come on the radio in early December its great to hear them again but some-Band Aid,Slade,Pogues etc are played to death so the novelty wears off. There are some that are hardly ever played-Gilbert O'Sullivan's The Christmas Song for one.Still never tire of John Lennon or Greg Lake though..
