Ministers want to limit the Freedom of Information Act in order to reduce the amount of embarrassing questions. This will also save money.
So presumably the name of the act will have to be changed.
The Mind your own Business Act in a Police State, or something.
How many pies did a certain high ranking government official eat last year?
Can't tell you too embarrassing.
So is there any point to the F.O.I act anymore?

I'd say the FOI is already limited in the information it provides..

It is already limited. You have to have quite extensive knowledge of what you're researching. In fact, you pretty much have to know the information that you are asking for already, the FOI just helps to confirm it.

According to Radio 4 yesterday morning the govt will look for information for free if it costs them less than £600 to do it. A lot of information is available and can be purchased by investigators such as details of anyones telephone calls. The worst abuser of the FOI act is apparently The Daily Mail (surprise, surprise) and if they can't get the info they make it up. The people investigating this have drawn up a list of journalists who are the worst offenders and the Mail had the audacity to ask who they were under the FOI act!

The FOI act is in direct opposition to data protection act and I don't see how we can have both of them.
