Read this article (http://www.surreycomet.co.uk/news/localnews/display.var.1039169.0.marksman_called_in_to_kill_k ingstons_pigeons.php), but more importantly the dozens and dozens of hillarious spoof comments below it. :hihi:

I sometimes watch pigeons having sex. It makes me feel just a little bit less lonely and unloved.

It's a shame to waste town pigeons by putting them in the bin when they've been shot, but seeing as they survive on a diet of chewing gum and dried vomit, they don't make good eating.

Read the comments, not so much the story, lol. :)

Pure class, now thats what happens when class A drugs are introduced into the towns water system instead of flouride.

There were some good names too. Mr Ucker and Mr Fitzwell deserve a special mention.

:hihi: Absolutely brilliant! I'm crying with laughter (I'm gonna share it with my office too).

Reminiscent of Viz/Framley Examiner/The Chap/The Idler, etc...

Thanks SupraSteve - that's made my day

Brilliant! I love the complete disrespect shown to authority by taking a serious story and mocking it with increasingly surreal comments. Although there are some corkers in there, the best one has to be:

Many thanks, Steve, that was brill.

I was particularly partial to Mrs Dallinger's comments myself. She reminded me of Henry Root!

Another great example of an article mocked by commenters is this one (http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/mike_read/2007/07/im_backing_boris.html) on the Guardian's Comment is Free discussion site. It's an article by former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read entitled "I'm Backing Boris", where he announces that he won't be standing as the Conservative nominee for the London mayoral election, so will therefore back Boris Johnson instead.

The pomposity and outrageous self-delusion of the article reached Alan Partridge proportions and led to him being mercilessly mocked in a rare show of unity from the CiF commenters. The third commenter set the tone when he replied "I would like to announce that I, too, will not be standing for Mayor of London", then the thread continued from there. The thread takes a good hour to read though, as it received over 1000 replies and is Comment is Free's most popular thread ever.

lol no worries - I've no idea how or why this thread was found and resurrected a year down the line, but I've been reading the comments all over again and am finding them as funny as the first time, so I'm glad it was! :D
