View Full Version : Pigeon story - pure brilliance!
SupraSteve 14-12-2006, 09:19 Read this article (http://www.surreycomet.co.uk/news/localnews/display.var.1039169.0.marksman_called_in_to_kill_k ingstons_pigeons.php), but more importantly the dozens and dozens of hillarious spoof comments below it. :hihi:
BasilRathbon 14-12-2006, 09:45 I sometimes watch pigeons having sex. It makes me feel just a little bit less lonely and unloved.
Sutcliffe 14-12-2006, 09:52 It's a shame to waste town pigeons by putting them in the bin when they've been shot, but seeing as they survive on a diet of chewing gum and dried vomit, they don't make good eating.
SupraSteve 14-12-2006, 10:06 Read the comments, not so much the story, lol. :)
Lol @ some of those comments...
Haven't you seen Valiant? Pigeons were a vital part of teh war effort in teh 1940s...
Mantaspook 14-12-2006, 10:45 Pure class, now thats what happens when class A drugs are introduced into the towns water system instead of flouride.
There were some good names too. Mr Ucker and Mr Fitzwell deserve a special mention.
SupraSteve 14-12-2006, 10:54 And the Austrian guy, "Hertz Van Rental" :D
shoeshine 14-12-2006, 11:03 Seems there's been a severe outbreak of "seriessix" in Kingston-Upon Thames! :hihi:
:hihi: Absolutely brilliant! I'm crying with laughter (I'm gonna share it with my office too).
Reminiscent of Viz/Framley Examiner/The Chap/The Idler, etc...
Thanks SupraSteve - that's made my day
purdyamos 14-12-2006, 11:54 Genius!
Shall we start spicing up The Star's website? :hihi:

I'm in, pick a story ;)
AtticusFinch 14-12-2006, 12:50 Brilliant! I love the complete disrespect shown to authority by taking a serious story and mocking it with increasingly surreal comments. Although there are some corkers in there, the best one has to be:
Posted by: General Pigeon. on 10:16am Wed 6 Dec 06
Dear Mr. McNally,
You cannot destroy us. We too much strong.
All your borough are belong to us.
You Will Die!
classic
we should do it to the star just let me know which story
FairyNormal 14-12-2006, 14:07 Count me in!! Those comments are hillarious!
That is the funniest thing I have read for ages.
seriessix 12-12-2007, 13:20 Southerners have a sense of humor.....
How funny!!!!!!!!!! Old news, but funny!
Southerners have a sense of humor.....
They're not all southerners  I know that at least one of the guys posting, lives in Dronfield !
Many thanks, Steve, that was brill.
I was particularly partial to Mrs Dallinger's comments myself. She reminded me of Henry Root!
That was hilarious, even the short ones like, "i hate pigeons, especially there feet" had me crying with laughter. :hihi:
AtticusFinch 12-12-2007, 16:15 Another great example of an article mocked by commenters is this one (http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/mike_read/2007/07/im_backing_boris.html) on the Guardian's Comment is Free discussion site. It's an article by former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read entitled "I'm Backing Boris", where he announces that he won't be standing as the Conservative nominee for the London mayoral election, so will therefore back Boris Johnson instead.
The pomposity and outrageous self-delusion of the article reached Alan Partridge proportions and led to him being mercilessly mocked in a rare show of unity from the CiF commenters. The third commenter set the tone when he replied "I would like to announce that I, too, will not be standing for Mayor of London", then the thread continued from there. The thread takes a good hour to read though, as it received over 1000 replies and is Comment is Free's most popular thread ever.
UrbanCaveman 12-12-2007, 16:26 I remember that from the summer. Just browsing over it now had me in tears!
SupraSteve 12-12-2007, 17:23 Many thanks, Steve, that was brill.

lol no worries - I've no idea how or why this thread was found and resurrected a year down the line, but I've been reading the comments all over again and am finding them as funny as the first time, so I'm glad it was! :D
seriessix 12-12-2007, 17:29 lol no worries - I've no idea how or why this thread was found and resurrected a year down the line :D
I found a link to it for last year and thought it deserved a bump - funny stuff.:)
Hillarious, did anyone actually manage to post anything on "The Star"? :hihi:
redrobbo 12-12-2007, 18:30 Seems there's been a severe outbreak of "seriessix" in Kingston-Upon Thames! :hihi:
I'm convinced Mrs Dallinger is a non-de-plume for seriessix! :hihi:
SupraSteve 31-10-2008, 12:58 Read this article (http://www.surreycomet.co.uk/news/localnews/display.var.1039169.0.marksman_called_in_to_kill_k ingstons_pigeons.php), but more importantly the dozens and dozens of hillarious spoof comments below it. :hihi:
Nearly 2 years later I stumble across this thread and find myself laughing at the comments all over again - so - bump!
Enjoy!
