Does anyone know how much the council charge per week for three bedroomed houses, and how does it compare with the private landlords?.....thanks in advance.

This has prices of rents on council properties and pictures of the properties in many areas in Sheffield.

I think for obvious reasons you will notice that Council rents are drastically cheaper than private landlord rents e.g. council rents are between £38 - £70+ per week and private rents are much much higher.

With council houses you get the right to buy and you accumerlate a discount over the duration of you tenancy, however discounts used to be a maximum of 38% off the purchase price of your property but have since gone down to only 16% but I might have those figures wrong so dont quote me on that.

Council house rents are cheaper than housing association at the moment, but when council housing is brought up to the 'decent standard' then the rents will be the same which ever you rent from. Can't say about private renting though
