View Full Version : Amusement arcades in 80s-90s
I used to waste my Saturdays in there quite often playing video games.
Did anyone go into the Amusement arcade in Matilida street in the 80's and 90s. I think it was called Golden City then became Storeys.
Around the corner from it there was another one called lynx.
There was one near the ABC cinema which I do not know the name of.
There was a cafe in Broomhall which was popular.
Were there any others?
Did you ever go to these amusement arcades when they were popular?
I used to visit Lynx every saturday at one stage when I was a kid. I used to waste alot of my spending money on those slots but I did enjoy it.
alchresearch 12-09-2004, 12:53 I used to go to Just Micro and Lasky's and downstairs in Boots and play on the Commdore 64s, Atari XLs, Acorn Electrons and Spectrums for free!
Just Micro was a kids playground. It was a great shop and had every console and computer you could think of. Although there was that many people on them you could never get a turn. :(

Tandys, downstairs after closing time in "The-Hole-In-The-Road" was much better than the above...
Had access to all the computers being sold @ the time...

Me an a mate used to go to the one round from the NCP carpark near the southern fried place near what was Berlins, think that was Matilda Strret, can't remember if it was Lynx, though it might have been, this was in the late 80's, we always used to play "Double Dragon", spent hours in there, then pop round the corner to Maccy D's for a burger!!

I used to work there!!:suspect:
Pam was the manager at the time.
When it closed we got moved downstairs to the quicksilver at the side of presto/lo-cost, where they built a small bingo, never really took off and they ripped it out.

The amusement place next to the old ABC cinema , in the late seventies was 'The crystal rooms'

I thought the one next to the ABC was called The Coppermine at least around 1980.
Once, I was in Golden City, one evening, mid to late 80's and there was only myself and one other customer in there, and we were both playing fruit machines.
I'll never forget it... the other customer was winning on his machine and because of this, the guy working there ordered him off the machine. I butted in and said that he was not doing anything wrong and with that we were both kicked out. The guy working there switched off all the power before ordering us out. I spent so much money in that place, but when someone happened to be winning they were kicked out. The guy who was working that night had worked there for years and always seemed ok, but obviously not.
