Hi
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any classes or anything in Crookes or S10 area.
I'm also interested in getting into climbing but don't have a clue how! I know there are loads of good climbs about but as i don't have any equipment or expertise, I'm at a loss really.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Try The Max Fitness Centre. Privately owned gym - no posers. Plenty of classes, good staff. It's part of the Unity Centre, Bole Hill Road.

Go google "the matrix" and try your hand at 'bouldering'.
No equipment or experience necessary.

In that case you want the Edge or Foundry - but they aren't in Crookes

Ok google the climbing works and try that. biggest bouldering venue in the world, apparently. And just 3 miles away.

But that's not in Crookes either... may be the thread title was misleading...

Have you tried the S10 fitness centre at the University, on Northumberland Ave. Great pool and facilities, a wide range of classes, but not sure about the climbing wall.
Ellie,
I won't go on about gym places, that's for others who know more....
Climbing-wise if you want to get climbing with minimum kit you've got a couple of options:
1) Go bouldering (as suggested above). The Matrix is a good starter as it's close, Climbing Works is a stunning place and has a huge selection of bouldering problems, but it is only bouldering. (web search for it finds the details)
2) Foundry and Edge are both good climbing venues (indoor) in Sheffield, and a quick web search for either will get you their details. You can hire kit there if you have someone to go along with and teach you the ropes (no pun intended).
You'll prob find that Climbing works, Edge and Foundry all offer some form of starter package to allow you to learn anything you don't know about the safety aspect of it all though they don't promise to make you a climbing expert, just safe indoors.
Outdoors is a whole other kettle of fish, and I'd get some good practice in indoors as it'll be a few months until it's vaguely sane temperature to get out and about again. My suggestion is get along to a couple of the indoor walls, once a week if you can, till the weather starts to improve then most climbing walls have noticeboards and the like where people look for others to go climbing with.
Or you could drop me a PM/text and see when you free and I could take you down to the edge or Foundry and teach you the basics if you want. I know most of the bits as I used to be a climbing instructor in a previous existence :)
Hope this helps,

Hi, i'm a freelance outdoor activity instructor. and at minute have very little to do! indoor climbing can be very inexpensive and with very little tuition can be easily taken up by anyone. the outdoor stuff can be slightly more expensive as you will need more equioment and possibly some sort of course to show you the ropes(pardon the pun). if you need any more info mail me i'm more than happy to help :)

Hi
It's probably a bit too far away for you but I run a circuit training class every Thursday night, 7-8 pm at Hillsborough Park Sports Arena, Middlewood Road. There's a great bunch of people come and it's really good fun. There's a different exercise every minute so you won't get bored and it's only £3.00 per session or only £10.00 if you book for 4 sessions.
