View Full Version : Norfolk Park. Do not buy or rent! vidster 11-09-2004, 03:01 If you need any more info, please pm me. Be assured, it would be a mistake!!!! DaBouncer 11-09-2004, 12:59 I think you need to post most on here first. Otherwise it doesn't really hold much weight. mr craig 11-09-2004, 16:20 Originally posted by DaBouncer I think you need to post most on here first. Otherwise it doesn't really hold much weight. Exactly what i was thinking. I have been thinking about renting there sometime next year, why not tell us all whats so bad about it? We might get a balanced discussion then. vidster 11-09-2004, 21:42 I do actually love the estate!!!, the problem is with GLEESONS and NORTH BRITISH HOUSING!. Gleesons decided in Feb to put a 10ft high fence, 6ft away from my and my 4 neighbours front window. They have shut off our road so we now have to access our homes by a narrow path that is hidden from view by other buildings. We were assured that the fence would be down and a new road put down but neithre has happened. We had a meeting with the head chief from north british approx 6 weeks ago where he made various promises but none of them have been acted on. This week we received a letter stating that the fence will now be there for 'many months to come'. If North british housing can treat all of us this way then surely they will not give a t*ss about anybody else who wants to buy/rent one of their brand new houses!! Just wondering if there are any laws to protect people in our position?. alchresearch 12-09-2004, 19:09 Can you not get The Star involved? A big of negative publicity for the companies involved will soon get that fence down. vidster 12-09-2004, 19:12 The Star is a last resort but this option is cropping up more and more! We would like to know our rights before we take this option. Plain Talker 16-09-2004, 11:41 If there is a problem, one port of call might be the Citizen's Advice Bureau, and also, (perhaps as a last resort) The Star newspaper and/or the local tv news, eg Calendar or Look North? A few years ago, my ex hubby and I were amongst the first tenants on a newly built development, and we had a few problems like that, whilst the rest of the development was completed.... I agree, it's a bit of a pain, putting up with the mud, the noise, the fencing, and the noise from the lorries. We had the disruption for eighteen months to two years, as the estate was erected, piecemeal. there is a code of conduct that contaractors/ builders have to adhere to, and it might be worth comparing the site-practice to the obligations set down in the code of conduct. Around the time of moving into our new house, particularly, the lack of paths and the ankle deep mud was a real bind, compounded by the fact that I use a wheelchair. However, once the building work, and what-have-you is complete, it will be worth it, surely? The new school and the "Retirement Village" are now complete:- a couple that I know have just moved onto the retirement village, and it seems to be really nice. The housing that is being put up to replace the tower-blocks looks lovely. PT vidster 16-09-2004, 16:29 I agree, the houses are nice around here, that is'nt the problem. The problem is that we are getting no feedback and no one seems to be bothered about our concerns. We received a rare letter from NBH last week telling us to expect the fence to stay for 'many more months'. They also offered us all £400 'compensation' each as a final payment, to bring this matter to an end. That's rich, considering we were supposed to get £5 a week from NBH for not having parking/paving and proper road surface. I make that £780 quid they owe us!. When we asked about this, they decided that someone had made a mistake and we should only be getting £1.70 per week. The letter never said anything about us getting any road signs either, yet this week i noticed nice new signs going up advertising the directions to the show houses. There is a nice big white space on top of the signs, i wonder if i should go and write our road in this space (Only joking). spotswood444 17-09-2004, 18:45 the problem with Norfolk park is that rented accomodation and private housing DO NOT MIX while the people moving in to the private houses are almost certainly very nice souls ,the people living in the rented houses are the tower block rejects ,some are very nice but there is a large amount of social scum to deal with and just like in the past they will spread through Norfolk park like a raging cancer. Also it is not fair to call GLEESONS as they have homes to build and as we have all heard before you cannot make an omelette without breaking some eggs people should learn to be patient and wait after all most of the complainers have no idea how difficult it can be to not only build new homes but to even get out of bed and do anything at all. vidster 17-09-2004, 19:21 As for the people on Norfolk park being social scum, You hav'nt got a clue!. I think you'll find that the vast majority of people living in the last tower block, moved out over a year ago. when it comes to this so called 'cancer' spreading through our estate, you will find that there are only limited homes going for rent. I do'nt know if you are talking from experience or just from some mis-informed gossip but Norfolk park is one of the hottest property spots in Sheffield at the minuite. Now on to GLEESONS. I am a qualified joiner and have worked on sites before!. This site has got to be the worst thought-out and run site i have ever seen. They have health and safety, and considerate contractor signs up everywhere, yet there is a 250 gallon diesel tank and what looks like a gas tank, less than 30ft away from my neighbour on the end. Not very safe i think!, when you consider that this area is the only way in/out of our homes to the road. If there was to be a fire in one of the houses, whoever lives up from that house is then stuck with no way out due to the 10ft fence outside our homes. At the meeting we had with NBH, they admitted that GLEESONS had not kept to ANY targets at all, and that they (NBH) are virtually powerless to do anything about it because of the specific contract they have with GLEESONS. They also admitted to knowing little more than we do about what is going on because GLEESONS will not keep them updated. Looking out on to the building site when i get home, i have realised that there are no way near enough contractors on site. There are probably less than 50 people on site and this is to build at least 30 houses and at least 6 blocks of flats!. We would not mind waiting for the fence to come down as long as we all knew what was happening and when, and if we at least get some street signs. Have you ever been in the position where you can not order anything, food/clothes/furniture etc, for at least a year because no one can find your home. Beleive me we have all tried!. vision 18-09-2004, 14:54 Originally posted by spotswood444 Also it is not fair to call GLEESONS as they have homes to build and as we have all heard before you cannot make an omelette without breaking some eggs people should learn to be patient and wait after all most of the complainers have no idea how difficult it can be to not only build new homes but to even get out of bed and do anything at all. We have had quite a few dealings with Gleesons and they are very untrustworthy. They do not keep to agreements and it took us 3 years to get them to maintain an area of green that was their responsibility. We had to get the planning dept. on to them and it still took them years. We have had problems with build quality etc. They are only building homes because they make huge profits out of it! Spotswood444 makes them sound like they are doing it for charity! |
