My daughter lives close to the tip and I've never noticed any
foul smell even on the warmest of days.
Is there any truth in reports of health problems

Reply please
thanks

Poison doesn't necessarily smell.

Check this out for a bit more info from a couple of people who actually live there.

As regards the health issue, welllllllllllll........

We had a questionnaire about a year ago. The results were published and were inconclusive as the results they got back seemed to indicate that people living miles away from the landfill site were suffering with asthma etc at similar proportions to people living at Shirecliffe.

Whereabouts does your daughter live BTW?

I'm not sure about these days because the treatment may be better. However, I did a college course at the old parkwood college many years ago and this was during summer. On Many occasions we had to close the windows because of the stench.

Ok now I´ve got it.

I lived directly opposite the tip (182 Longley Ave west) 10 years ago. I never had problems with smells or the likes. Maybe I was down wind!!!!

How is Shirecliffe these days?

Never smelt anything while I've been in the area...and I've lived here for over four years now.

Admittedly It took over a year for me to realise where the tip was, so I wouldn't count on my sensory powers (whether visual or olfactory).

As for Shirecliffe, I think I've really landed on my feet buying this house...When I originally came to see it I had reservations about the area but it's been really good.

We have no gripes about Shirecliffe at all
My daughter has a lovely council house thats nearly fully modernised now, and although she lives close to the timbertop pub can't say she's had any hassel from there either
Its a friendly place where everyone speaks even if it's only good morning.

We were a little concerned about the health issues raised by various residents in the area, But to be honest I have lived quite local to the tip for 45 years and I am healthy so I can't say we were so worried that we would object to living there.

Wish the same could be said for where I live

I live opposite the timbertop and may know your daughter, i agree i ve been here 4 years too and the areas nice never had any trouble ...

but the tip smelt really bad last summer the air freshners (or whatever there called ) that they use for odour control were broken and it was really smelly especially when it was wet and damp as for the health issue since moving here ive developed nasal problems but not sure wether its the tip or not ...but my nose is better when im not near home !!!

Has the tip changed much in the last 5 years?
Did it used to be a proper tip?
It is now a waste transfer station, which I would not expect to smell much.
I am thinking of moving to the area, and that last post has got me slightly worried.

We lived close by the tip on Gleadless Valley in the '60s, when it was operational, and not just a "Dumpit" and I can't ever remember getting any smells from it.

It was 5 years ago when i lived in Shirecliffe, I lived there for 8 years and i could smell like a sicky sweet smell when it was warm that i was told was the tip, but i only can ever remember smelling that smell only twice in the 8 years.
