View Full Version : Your best gig this year?
EdnaKrabappe 10-12-2006, 14:16 What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
And have you still any to look forward to?
For me
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Jet in Manchester in November without a doubt. Nic was oblivious to the fact he'd had laringitis and rocked the crowd big time. Got tickets for next March's gig.
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
The Paul Weller electric proms gig in London. I had a ticket as well but had made a prior committment that then went and let me down!!!GRRR!! Locally, the We are Scientists gig.
And have you still any to look forward to?
Beautiful South on 16th with Badly Drawn Boy and
Kasabian with The Fratellis on the 22nd. Got a few in the pipeline for 2007 as well!
shells2909 10-12-2006, 15:10 For me the best gig of 2006 was seeing Robbie Williams at Roundhay Park, Leeds. Absolutely massive, the atmosphere was electric and the show amazing. A close second was seeing James Dean Bradfield at the Leadmill, that mans voice is unbelievable.
Would have loved to have seen Muse but couldnt afford it at the time, definately next time tho!!
Mattenmurg 10-12-2006, 15:45 Seeing Juliette and the Licks at Leadmill was it for me, amazing! I couldn't have looked forward to it more and it didn't dissapoint.
I would have liked to have seen Muse.
Not got anything lined up for next year... bit sad actually!
muddycoffee 10-12-2006, 15:49 Seeing Juliette and the Licks at Leadmill was it for me, amazing! I couldn't have looked forward to it more and it didn't dissapoint.
!
I was there too,
it was truly superb.
The other gig which was brilliant for me this year was the Waterboys at Gilfest. Even though the guy looks like he is strung out on drugs the band and songs were like watching some miraculous wonder. They were simply breathtaking.
Next year I am looking forward to the Buena Vista Social Club.
weenireeni 10-12-2006, 15:56 hmmm best one for me this year was wireless festival at leeds, in particular the flaming lips, id never heard of them before and they rocked! entertaining and great music!
looking forward to seein kasabian in february in Amsterdam, the venue only holds 1000 people so should be excellent!
and i wish id seen the feeling earlier this year, but couldnt get tickets that werent overpriced :(
JFKvsNixon 10-12-2006, 16:09 Lab4, at Zogg. The best set I have ever seen, absolutely amazing.
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Aussie Pink Floyd at the Arena - the nearest you're gonna get to Floyd
And have you still any to look forward to?
Aussie Floyd again next April and the brilliant Richard Hawley at the City Hall next Tuesday
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Red Hot Chili Peppers! Loved it
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
Theres two, Foo Fighters and Muse. If i had to pick though it would have been Foo Fighters
And have you still any to look forward to?
No :(
My personal highlights were:
Guns N Roses @Sheffield Arena
The Tivoli @The Boardwalk
Kik @The Boardwalk
Dirty Dozen Event @The Bedroom
Beakerzoid 11-12-2006, 00:41 Sadly only had the cash for one this year.....and that was MUSE.
Thankfully that was possibly the best gig I've been to ever....so it wasn't wasted!
Would have liked to afford tickets for Maiden, but couldn't.
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
I guess overall I'd have to say Download 2006......Opeth, Metallica (playing Master Of Puppets in it's entirety), Sick Of It All, Skindred to name but a few. But if it's individual gigs then Opeth @ Rock City.
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
Don't think there are any.
And have you still any to look forward to?
Nope, Tool/Mastodon was my last gig of the year on Dec 1.....got 3 lined up for next year already tho.....Nine Inch Nails, Deftones and Incubus :D
Amsterdamned 11-12-2006, 11:01 Hmmmm.... best gigs:
Springsteen @ The Arena and Manchester
M. Ward @ The Leadmill
Or8OurKids @ The Boardwalk
Nickelcreek @ Memorial Hall
Hawly tomorrow night will probably be added to that list too.
Can't think of any i've missed that i regret, but tickets are in hand next year for Ray LaMontagne, Ben Folds, Roddy Frame and Richmond Fontaine. Should be another good 'un...
MuteWitness 11-12-2006, 11:40 Morrissey at the Palladium for me - brilliant gig and the fact he wore a tux !:P
AgentLesbos 11-12-2006, 12:04 What's the best gig you've been to this year?

NEKRO138 11-12-2006, 12:26 What's the best gig you've been to this year?

Springsteen at the Arena,
Roddy Frame, Slaid Cleaves, Nicklecreek all at the Memorial Hall.
Hayseed Dixie were rocking the other week at the Leadmill.
Gig of the year should be tonight (12/12/06) with Richard Hawley at the City Hall!
Seeing Jools Holland on Sunday, then really looking forward to Ray Lamontagne at the end of January.
BasilRathbon 12-12-2006, 10:43 Best gig was John Foxx at the Leadmill. Seeing as I only went to 3 gigs this year and the other two were Gary Numan, perhaps that's not so surprising.....
Plain Talker 12-12-2006, 11:29 Doublewood and I went to the debbie harry/ blondie gig, at the city hall, a year ago last weekend.
It was part of my christmas present to him, as he was crazy about Debbie Harry at her Zenith.
I thought... "I want to give him a memorable experience, something that he can treasure forever" (oi! keep it clean! lol) and decided that the gig was a once-in-a lifetime opportunity.
We really enjoyed seeing/ hearing her, in a live environment.
(what we saw of it, peering around through all the ignoramii who though it cool/clever to stand in front of the wheelchair-users, blocking our view)
another couple of gigs I/we did was two different productions of "the Rat Pack, Live From Las Vegas", one in June, (again, for DW's birthday) at the crucible. three actors/singers/ dancers impersonating Sinatra, Dean MArtin, and Sammy Davies Jr. great show, great music, great dancing. was fab. I enjoyed it so much , that when I heard the show was coming back in october, I booked for that one, Slightly different cast, playing the parts of the guys, but, again, great show, had a fabulous time.
What's the best gig you've been to this year?

seeyoujimmy 12-12-2006, 13:12 Status Quo at the arena last weekend - amazing!
The EAGLES at MEN last June! Brilliant!!
Wish I'd seen SANTANA, but no one wanted to go with me
Nothing planned for the rest of this year, but, providing funds allow and I can get hold of the tickets, Id love to see GENESIS next year!!
John Parr last saturday at the circle in worksop and journey in milton keynes last summer:)
Agent Gypo 12-12-2006, 15:37 What's the best gig you've been to this year?

Wolfgang Flur, Clark and Hiem in Sheffield.
[B]And have you still any to look forward to?
Clunge launch party; with loads of dj's (Dirty Cheese, Razor Stiletto, C90, Rough Disco, Cargo and Threads).
Nothing else springs to mind though, unless Aphex Twin is playing anywhere....
Muse at the Leeds Festival for definite - absolutely threw it down throughout their set and as we walked off the site and wandered round Leeds trying to find a taxi, leaving me with bronchitis for the next couple of weeks, but it was so worth it!
Wish I'd seen Richard Hawley at the City Hall this week but missed it. Also wanted to see Jamie T at Plug, but was away on holiday so missed that one too.
And Mozza at the City Hall - missed that due to a mix up on the tickets.
shells2909 16-12-2006, 09:55 orson at sheff union were pretty good
arctic monkeys at rock castle in nottingham was ace
even robbie williams was ace at mk bowl
best has got to be a little known sheffield outfit called the spires...small venue but i had a great nite...!
Orson were great  think my eardrums have just about recovered - they were so loud, great with the crowd too!!
weenireeni 01-03-2007, 12:04 hmmm best one for me this year was wireless festival at leeds, in particular the flaming lips, id never heard of them before and they rocked! entertaining and great music!

not yet but its still early. maybe if the police hit up this side of the pond and the tickets arent tooo costly, i may go. ryan adams is releasing an album in june, so he might be touring over here again and if so, im right there dead center.
So far this year, Just Jack were surprisingly excellent recently - I really enjoyed myself. Also Husky Rescue recently were great. Am very excited about Faithless in April. Never seen 'em live, and can't wait.
EdnaKrabappe 01-03-2007, 20:43 ooh good someone's resurrected my 2006 thread!
Ok so this year... so far
Best gig:
Probably The Wombats at DQ. Not my most expensive one but was well impressed by them and The Headliners as well.
One I wish I'd gone to:
Indie Rave tour. Bah who was to know I'd be in love with Klaxons now!
Ones to look forward to:
Ash and Jet this weekend, Kasabian (is it groundhog day?), The Holloways, The Hours, Kelly Jones, From The Jam, Arctics and V festival VIP :D ... hopefully booking Travis shortly.
Springsteen at the Arena and Manchester
999 at the Boardwalk
Looking forward to Steve Winwood at the Leadmill and The Who at the Arena
BlankFrack 02-03-2007, 09:26 I haven't had my socks blown off by any gigs so far this year
Wish I'd gone to Joanna Newsom in Manchester - had the offer of a ticket but I was away :(
Really Cock-A-Hoop with anticpatory glee at the prospect of Tilly and the Wall at the Leadmill tonight - it's gonna be a joyful tap dancing extravaganza!!
And ATP vs The Fans at Butlins in Minehead in May - Lotsa wierd noisy bands and Echo and The Bunnymen too. Marvellous.
OK for this year :)
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Brutal Truth at Corp...my first and only gig so far this year.
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
None yet.
And have you still any to look forward to?
Nine Inch Nails (tomorrow :D ), Mastodon, Deftones, Incubus, Parkway Drive, Converge
absynthfairy 02-03-2007, 13:21 This year - The Feeling last weeked were amazing, I absolutely loved them - Dan Gillespie Sells is a true frontman.
Off to see Girls Aloud in May:love: and have been informed I am going to see Take That in December this morning too:o
Would very much like to see The Feeling again and would love to see Charlotte Church but guess that won't be happening this year...
the best gigs i went to in 2006 were
Springsteen at Manchester Arena,
StellarStarr* at the leadmill,
and
The Go! Team at the Plug
wish i'd seen belle and sebastian at the octagon
and maximo park also at the octagon - had tickets for this but couldn't get and was sooooooooooooo disappointed!
looking forward to the shins and nouvelle vague this year, both at manchester academy, and also willy mason at the leadmill
EdnaKrabappe 04-03-2007, 07:16 ASH!!!!!!!!!!!
Despite feeling like poo yesterday this was an amazing gig! God can that Tim Wheeler play a guitar!!!!! Fantastic. Got more guitars tonight with Jet (I am only allowed to see bands that have three letters in their name it seems this weekend.
yummyyumyum 04-03-2007, 09:05 Went to the Ash gig too last night....WOW!
Best of year so far were the amazing Carol Anne Showband, live in my friends front room last saturday. They were superb and played two sets for us. I'm inviting them to perform at my 40th in June as well.
psychology21 05-03-2007, 15:04 Saw The Killers last night and they were much better than I thought they were going to be, the singing was amazing. Wish I'd seen Larrikin Love and wish I could afford to go to Glastonbury and Leeds this summer but sadly can't!
elephantnellie 06-03-2007, 23:56 the gentlemen at boardwalk and plug and nottingham :)
ReginaldD 07-03-2007, 21:30 If were talking about 2006 as it seems some people are the best was The Goo Goo Dolls in Leeds. Oasis were a big disapointment at the Sheff Arena, I'd seen them before in Manchester and compared to then it seemed like they couldn't arsed which they probably weren't. This year The Fratellis is the best I've been to, that was amazing and looking to the future, I'm seeing Little Man Tate this Friday and Saturday at Plug which I can't wait for.
pontious 09-03-2007, 00:05 Neil McSweeney / Justin Rutledge at The Grapes 6th March. Truely mesmorizing!
The Killers at the Arena was an impressive gig... as was Little Man Tate at the Plug on Friday... so ace to see them have the crowd eating out of their palms....
EdnaKrabappe 07-12-2007, 18:44
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
And have you still any to look forward to?
Ok it's nearly the end of another gig going year. So... interestingly the Kasabian one didn't happen until march from last year's post, Jet weren't as good the second time (but they were still good) and Newton Fawkner was but a twinkle in my eye.
So... my entries
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Very difficult... mm. Probably Ash in March was the best one even though I was very poorly.
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
The Enemy at the Plug
And have you still any to look forward to?
The Bluetones Sat, Wombats on Monday, Situationists the week after, hoping to do The Complete Stone Roses on the 16th
Next year:
Blood Red Shoes and Amy MacDonald but that's all so far! :o
magicaljen 07-12-2007, 20:47 What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Ooo...tough!! Either the first time saw Kate Nash do her own gig...think that was in March orrr Maximo Park in Liverpool in...June? :)
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
Foo fighters!! Had no money when tickets went on sale:(:(
And have you still any to look forward to?
Nope no more planned....need to have even more than this year next year mind!! Was a good gig year :)
weenireeni 07-12-2007, 20:55 Best of the year:
Think it has to be kasabian in amsterdam, amazing! cloesly followed by milburn at floodstock in leadmill
Wish I'd gone to:
Rihanna tonight! or rumble strips at leadmill, kate nash at leadmill :(
Next year:
Quite a few!
Have bought tickets for: Mark Ronson, Reverend and the Makers, Pigeon detectives, boyzone, girls aloud, sugababes, kelly clarkson
hope to go to hoosiers, duffy, kate nash
:)
davedrfc 08-12-2007, 11:02 We went to Rihanna last night, was pretty good, did anybody else go?
What did everyone think to her claiming to be ill? Looked more like she was drunk to me, some very bizarre facial expressions and not much singing! lol
John Mayer, supported by Newton Faulkner at the Royal Albert Hall... one of the best gigs I've ever been too!
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Little Man Tate at the Plug in August, cos of the atmosphere and The Human League last night because I've been waiting so long to see them
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
Reverend and the Makers at the Leadmill, which I think was in May, I didn't have anyone to go with and missed out on tickets, and also I wish I was going to the one they're doing this month again at the Leadmill, but tickets were so hard to get hold of :(
And have you still any to look forward to?
Arctic Monkeys in Manchester on Wednesday. Seeing as their gig at Magna last year was one of the best I've ever been to, this should be pretty good and I'm REALLY looking forward to it :D
Best gig this year ...
Joint first goes to ... Arctic Monkeys @ LCCC and The Shins @ Manchester.
The one that got away...
Had tickets for Groove Armada at Octogon but had to miss it to look after my poorly boyfriend... my friends went and it sounded awesome.
To look forward to..
CSS in a couple of weeks time at the leadmill, maybe Nadasurf and Stars too and I haven't given up hope of getting hold of a Rev&Makers ticket for the leadmill.
fabulous_girl 08-12-2007, 15:44 i've only seen Motion city soundtrack with straylight run this year, i dont go to enough gigs but i'm seeing funeral for a friend next week. i wish i had seen the arctic monkeys
i have three months free entry to plug though so i gotta start going to more. but its so coooold!!
Either Interpol in Blackpool, The Brian Jonestown Massacre at the Leadmill or the English Chamber Orchestra at City Hall.
I wish I'd been to Arcade Fire at one of their venues.
Next year I'm hoping to see Morrissey and Radiohead, and have tickets to Bjork which should be amazing!
Agent Gypo 08-12-2007, 16:27 Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert and DJ Rephlex last night, at Warehouse Project in Manchester. The best night out I've had this year.
elethiomel 08-12-2007, 17:07 Oh My God! I don't think I have been to a single gig this year......does that make me an old fart?
I admit that I haven't been to any! I have never really been so much into bands.
Global Gathering on the festival front. AMAZING!
i went to rihanna last night i was sat ryt at side of stage it was absolutely out of this world i loved it an yes she was not too well she was even thinkin of cancelling cos she felt really bad yesterday morning
EdnaKrabappe 09-12-2007, 11:26 i went to rihanna last night i was sat ryt at side of stage it was absolutely out of this world i loved it an yes she was not too well she was even thinkin of cancelling cos she felt really bad yesterday morning
That woman sings, it starts raining. I tell ya, she's a curse!

pippadoll 09-12-2007, 12:12 :I'm in love with Mark Morriss today:love:hope it will last until Monday night. xx
Read that and thought of Mark Morrisson, return of the Mac...maybe you are too young to remember - I was really worried about your mental state...thankfully you are fine
EdnaKrabappe 09-12-2007, 12:24 :I'm in love with Mark Morriss today:love:hope it will last until Monday night. xx
Read that and thought of Mark Morrisson, return of the Mac...maybe you are too young to remember - I was really worried about your mental state...thankfully you are fine
ooh no not him. Didn't he go to prison for bashing someone round the head or something?
I'm not into men like that, although i did once have an awkward conversation with Hugh from the Housemartins.
not wanted 09-12-2007, 12:53 I worked quite a few festivals this year and I've seen some great gigs in terrible conditions.
As an old fogey I'm going to have to say Jesus and Mary Chain at Connect Festival as gig of the year, spellbinding and the best they have played for 20 years.
Candi Payne also at Connect Festival was really good, great voice, songs and band
But the best music I saw was at a free party in Attercliffe in September. A bloke had got a TB303 and a TR606 drum machine and made the most wonderful squelchy Acid House on one of the few warm and sunny days of the year.
Cardiacs at the Boardwalk in November. Good to see that they're still insane.
the foo fighters were awsome at arena Dave grohl never stopped moving
but also enjoyed Thin Lizzy at city hall. My son bought tickets it turned out to be thirtyth aniversary of Live and dangerous album
my son went to front and let his hair out of pony tail it made me feel really old because thirty years ago that was me and my mates on the original tour.
Gig would like to have seen was justin Currie (del amitri singer) at leadmill but was away in Zante
HIMGODDESS 09-12-2007, 15:50 saw foo's and mcr a couple of weeks ago, but just settin off to manchester to see HIM at APOLLO :love::love:
saw HIM 18 months ago there an it was :headbang::banana:
can't wait!!!!!
Cardiacs at the Boardwalk in November. Good to see that they're still insane.
I went to that, they were brill. Also saw em at Manchester 2 days later. Different set!
Rush at the Arena were also fantastic, as they always are.
not wanted 09-12-2007, 16:14 John Cooper Clarke at the boardwalk was another one I really enjoyed
topshop_las 09-12-2007, 20:48 the courteeners at leadmill were brilliant - ended up leaving with them! so good night all round
Been to far fewer gigs this year than in the previous three of four. Not that many outstanding ones this year either.
Ex-Delgado Emma Pollock at The Leadmill last month was one up there with the best though. Just wish there'd been more people there. Criminally underrated, as her former band were.
King Creosote at The Boardwalk in October was also ace. As were the Super Furry Animals in Leeds.
Wish I'd gone to The Shins in Manchester.
And looking forward to Stars playing The Leadmill next year.
topshop_las 09-12-2007, 21:29 morrissey im sure will be the best gig of my life roundhouse and donny dome here we come!
becky518 09-12-2007, 22:09 axell at leadmill n am at lcc....
Agent Orange 11-12-2007, 11:04 What's the best gig you've been to this year?
Would have to say Metallica at Wembley stadium. Absolutely awesome!!!
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
Led Zepplin. Didn't enter the lottery therefore didn't win and wasn't prepared to pay 80 odd thousand for a ticket :D
And have you still any to look forward to?
Not got anymore gigs lined up as yet, so watch this space!!
NEKRO138 11-12-2007, 12:07 Metallica at Wembley was good. Foo Fighter at Arena was good. Boris at corp was good. Queens of the Stoneage were good at the Apollo. NOFX in Liverpool was good. Twilight Singers at Boardwalk was good.
But Nine Inch Nails at Manchester Apollo blew them all clean out the water.
And Turbonegro in Edinburgh, Leeds and London were also good.
ReginaldD 11-12-2007, 13:27 I've been to loads this year, for me any way. Have lost count must be about twenty.
The best would be
Fratellis, Manchester Appolo with The Enemy supporting them about February I think it was. Fratellis were amazing and the Apollo was great for the sound. We'd never heard of The Enemy before then but could tell they sounded good on first impressions
Wish I'd gone to........
Arctic Monkey's at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, sounded like my mates had a quality day of it.
Still to come..........
Arctic Monkeys tomorrow in Manchester then Little Man Tate in Blackpool on Saturday, which I'm really looking forward to.
Next Year...........
Scouting for Girls
David Gray
KT Tunstall
Kaiser Chiefs supported by The Enemy and Kate Nash
The Hoosiers
Amy MacDonald
The Cribs
Foo Fighters at the Arena
Editors at The Octagon
But the best would have to be Cold War Kids at the Leadmill.
EdnaKrabappe 28-09-2008, 11:28 I've been to relatively few gigs for me this year.:( Hoping to up the ante a bit before the end of the year but doubt I'll beat last years 56.
Best one this year was Hue and Cry in September. Pat Kane's voice was amazing he had me transfixed during I refuse... definitely a defining moment also loved his version of last request...
Although meeting Johnny Brown Shoes:love: last week was pretty cool and meeting late of the pier during the Ash gig at Middlesbrough.
And the rooftop Heaven 17 was definitely a special moment too.
amyjhill 28-09-2008, 22:22 The foo fighters at wembley playing with John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page the most amazing gig ive been to this year! Maybe ever
missymarsbar 29-09-2008, 21:27 Got to agree with Edna - Heaven 17 was good (if you were on the roof :hihi:!)
Other good stuff:
Airbourne and Turisas at Corp
Prodigy at Mares Vivas Festival, Portugal
Agent Orange 03-11-2008, 12:40 Been a quiet one for me this year, only managed to get 2 gigs under my belt.... Lemonheads and Feeder. Both equally as good.
Got some mega ones to look forward to including Metallica and Oasis. Cant wait!!!
swordfish1 03-11-2008, 15:54 Seen quite a few this year.
Scars on Broadway by a country mile for me tho.
Got Pendulum, Prodigy and Slipknot on 10th,11th,12th Dec. Hopefully 3 good days
NEKRO138 04-11-2008, 08:25 Scars on Broadway by a country mile for me tho.
Not seen them live, but I got the album sent through as a promo and was glad I'd not bought it. I expected a lot more.
flamingjimmy 04-11-2008, 09:42 I'm going to see Protest the Hero twice next week, then i'm seeing Less Than Jake in a couple more weeks, then New Found Glory, then i'm seeing Coheed and Cambria next month.
Exiting stuff.
What's the best gig you've been to this year?
My Morning Jacket at the Leadmill, close call over Richard Hawley at Buxton but as I have seen him before and had been waitng to see MMJ for a couple of years this gets the vote. They delivered.
Which one do you wish you'd gone to?
Calexico at the Leadmill - family wedding had priority.
And have you still any to look forward to?
Sadly nothing in the diary at the moment, ought to see if anything worth seeing is coming up
I think mine changed....Biohazard at Corp on Sunday were pretty fkin awesome!
neutronium 04-11-2008, 14:23 Got to be Milburns last ever gig at the Carling Academy for me. :( The boys did themselves & the crowd proud. Emotional night for all. Roll on the DVD, for the memories.:)
Dark Moomin 04-11-2008, 15:30 My best of this year I think was Terrorvision at Newcastle Academy - Always a gig that I leave feeling battered and squashed by soooo happy.
Seeing RATM at T and Reading was also good, and Metallica at Reading too.
One I wish I'd been at - Foos at Wembley, had tickets but with 2 festivals and loads fo other stuff on in the summer couldn't afford to do it - having seen them quite alot before.
It seems I haven't been to nearly enough gigs though!

greenrat 09-11-2008, 22:07 What's the best gig you've been to this year?
For me seeing Kiss at the Download festival was awesome. Tried to get tickets to see AC/DC but all sold out so seeing AC/DC Livewire at the Boardwalk instead. Rock On !!
EdnaKrabappe 09-11-2008, 22:40 Just the 'still to look forward tos' then... done a few since last post - Brand New Heavies was pretty special.
Nov: Tudors etc@ Gig goers tomorrow. Chris Helme, Paul Weller.
Dec: From the Jam, Complete Stone Roses, ME at Sheff Arena!!:D:hihi: Stereophonics, Steel City Tour.
Few others I'd like to do but depends on funds and friends.:)(primal scream perhaps, Rifles, Kings of leon but mainly for We are Scientists! Bluetones)
Looking forward to next year I'd like to go see The Enemy, Kaisers mebbe as they are good fun, Simply Red, Nerina Pallot and Sharleen Spiteri - embracing my 30somethingness obviously!
Saw New Found Glory last night, absolutely awesome :D
nadine_2008 27-11-2008, 09:02 i want to see a gig of avril lavigne, but no money now...
Emilychee 27-11-2008, 14:42 The best would be:
Rage @ Reading Festival....I'd waited 12 years to see them, I couldn't breathe I was that excited. Followed closely by Rancid @ Academy in Nov, brill!!!
Wish I'd gone to........
Sad that I missed Flogging Molly @ Reading (I was working a one of the bars, they were on during my shift), saw the Dropkicks instead and was v. disappointed
Still to come..........
Reel Big Fish nxt year at Corp.....so far
Powerage 27-11-2008, 14:46 My best gigs this Year were Thunder, The Scorpions and Linkin Park I havnt been to many this year:mad:

flamingjimmy 27-11-2008, 14:58 Saw New Found Glory last night, absolutely awesome :D
I was there too! they were pretty good i guess. I thought the support band who had the lead singer with a cool beard were really good though.
Bellowhead at Buxton Opera House in October - bonkers infectious big band "folk" music with pogoing fiddlers - happily much of it is on You Tube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVobl5gdvjU
They're playing Sheffield next February - can't wait
koenigsinger 30-11-2008, 17:14 cant pick just one, so indulge me while I lay out my top 5 gigs of 2008.
1. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds @ Manchester Apollo. this was a stormer of a gig, inspiring on so many levels and a great night out.
2. Gemma Ray/The Koenig/Steve Fketcher @ the Boardwalk. This was the gig that for myself and Jim, confirmed that we are justified in our total belief in our songs, and our live show, we played out of our skins and had a great night.
3. King Creosote @ the Boardwalk. Probably the most underrated singer/songwriter in the UK right now, down to earth and atmospheric, worth every penny and again, isnpiring for any singer.
4. Darkside of The Lounge @ Fiesta Brunete, Spain. classic pop and rock songs, twisted in a lounge/jazz/blues/world music stylee, in front of a festival crowd in Spain, it'll never work.... Au Contraire, it rocked!
5. Alabama 3 / Orange 38 @ Plug. Brilliant brilliant brilliant! nuff said. Big respect to Paddy O and the gang, big love to tha bama 3.
lets see what 2009 brings :)
Finally got to see Roisin Murphy at the Manchester Academy last Friday. She was amazing.
Kings of leon but mainly for We are Scientists!
Are WAS supporting on the UK tour? I thought that was just in the US?

Bottoms! You are right. Ages ago I said it was M83 then I heard it was WAS and was gutted I'd paused and hesitated on a ticket. I obviously need to listen a little more carefully.
Don't mind that I'm not going now.

I did the same! WAS are one of my fave bands so was dead excited because I thought maybe they'd extend it to the UK tour as well but they haven't. I read about M83 a while ago.
Back on the subject of WAS, Keith is on Buzzcocks tomorrow night - I'll definately be watching and Sky+-ing that. He's so pretty, and VERY funny, I think he'll give Simon Amstell a run for his money!

Cheers for the heads up! :) Agree with everything you've said, especially about the Yorkshire Puddings. ;)
shanes teeth 03-12-2008, 20:49 I haven't been to the best gig of the year yet-it's going to be The Pogues next friday.

yes! i was there, they ****ing destroyed... amazing gig

Don't count on it. Shane's glory days have long gone - and let's face it he could scarcely sing back in the day....it might be a shambles.
Gutted to be missing the Pogues, but Halibut could be right. Shane's a very hit and miss artiste! However, that said, it'll be worth watching just to see the rest of the band - such amazing musicians, last time I saw them everyone played everything, swapping between songs and sometimes during songs. Fantastic.

Last year at Manchester they were as good as I've ever seen them. The band get better and better and Shane seems now to know his limitations-two or three vocal numbers followed by an instrumental while he went off to have a rest! In the past I've seen them do gigs where he's sat cross legged on the floor, unable to stand.Yes he forgets the words now and then, but what fantastic words they are!
Stereophonic 05-12-2008, 13:24 Best gigs all to come in Dec Phonics in Manchester, Phonics in Sheffield, Phonics in Bimigham, Phonics in London
Just saw Kings Of Leon at Sheffield Arena and they were brilliant! Did around 1h 45min set with a great mix of old and new (My Party, Joe's Head, Molly's Chamber, Sex On Fire, Closer, Cold Desert). Definitely a band I have to see live again. Wasn't too keen on the support act, called M18(?) or something, though.

Wow! I bow to your commitment. I remember you telling me about all these ages ago - well jealous! I'll be there at Sheffield though with bells on. (last day at work too!)
Not sure if you've seen this but they are doing a blog of the tour...one to be posted on each leg ... here is why there are my favourite band too.:)

They were called M83, and they were absolutely dire. KoL were excellent though.
SulpHate 08-12-2008, 08:48 Eraserhead at Tinnitus, DJ Rephlex Records at our launch party... LFO and Luke Vibert is bound to be rather special this Friday too...!
Stereophonic 08-12-2008, 09:28 Vegas Two Times-opening number
Wow, can't wait now. Phonics rule. I have been trying to not look at the setlists from previous gigs but it is proving difficult.
Isis at Corp last night were pretty damned fantastic.
jazzamatazz 08-12-2008, 17:26 Sex Patels @The Boardwalk last month top notch, also Alabama 3 @ The Plug was pretty god damn awesome:thumbsup:

I was right!!! I think perhaps I ought to apply for that clarevoyants job on that other thread.
sammsufc 14-12-2008, 22:38 not really been to many gigs this year, but The Last Shadow Puppets at sheffield city hall was very very very good :)
ohmyword 15-12-2008, 07:48 Saturday just gone, saw the awesome Warrior Soul at Corporation. First time I've seen them since 1995! Still full on rock 'n' roll action. Phenomenal. Frontman Kory Clarke is a loose cannon, and an outstanding performer! Support act was Ricky Warwick, formerly of the Almighty, doing an acoustic set. 'Twas good!
