Guatemala! Fat people! barracuda 05-01-2007, 02:36 all the bjj clubs in sheffield must be having there doors banged down now with people making new year's resolutions after they've read this thread! such a good advert for the sport! ;) Eh ? Maybe you should ready the thread again. It was supposed to be about BJJ but it got hijacked by ninjas with plastic knives  cagn4y 05-01-2007, 04:33 have you never heard of association? bjj = martial art/combat sport. reading this thread would be enough to put anyone of either for life... :loopy: cagn4y 05-01-2007, 04:34 and if you'd read the thread you'd realise it ended up no more ridiculous than how it began...:loopy: (right back atchya!) fingercuffs 05-01-2007, 07:25 and if you'd read the thread you'd realise it ended up no more ridiculous than how it began...:loopy: (right back atchya!) Really? So going from how it began (title of thread) = Who's the best BJJ team in Sheffield/area? Which could be reasoned through results in tournaments and current grades at the clubs (BJJ is a performance based art) To how it ended up = Toyhawk offering to send me on holiday to iraq to see if i could talk around the militia and the mention of suicide bombers. Yeah, you might have a pont there champ... willman 05-01-2007, 13:57 can we have a contest for the quitest - there's some noisy blighters @ Graves. i thought one was in the throes of climax last week. troyhark 05-01-2007, 16:13 Really? So going from how it began (title of thread) = Who's the best BJJ team in Sheffield/area? Which could be reasoned through results in tournaments and current grades at the clubs (BJJ is a performance based art) To how it ended up = Toyhawk offering to send me on holiday to iraq to see if i could talk around the militia and the mention of suicide bombers. Yeah, you might have a pont there champ... An alternative point of view. The muppet quoted above, misquotes everyone out of context, to the point where I would call it lying, he seems unable to read an entire post before replying and has now appears to have come out as gay - so maybe he was one of those being noisy at graves last week!:hihi: Fingercuffs even redited a post of his I quoted and accused me of missing out the bit he'd added subsequently, I did re-edit post but to correct a typo in my text, not to remove the part of quote that wasn't there in first place. So lying to cover up weak arguments is what it has come down to. Kind of pathetic really. The half wit doesn't even get my name right. Funny thing was that his re-edit only underscored his lack of understanding, so I would have kept it in, not taken it out. troyhark 05-01-2007, 16:20 Orangutans! Guatemala! Fat people!More pertinant than anything Fingercuffs has posted. :D chefkicker 05-01-2007, 16:20 Really? So going from how it began (title of thread) = Who's the best BJJ team in Sheffield/area? Which could be reasoned through results in tournaments and current grades at the clubs (BJJ is a performance based art) To how it ended up = Toyhawk offering to send me on holiday to iraq to see if i could talk around the militia and the mention of suicide bombers. Yeah, you might have a pont there champ... Or even based upon results from MMA shows??? chefkicker 05-01-2007, 16:21 As a matter of fact there is a discussion on BJJ on this forum : Here is the link, join in and have a chat, http://www.sheffieldkickboxingclub.com/forum/forumthread.php?parent=35&fid=1 There you go,.. Enjoy! barracuda 05-01-2007, 16:53 have you never heard of association? bjj = martial art/combat sport. reading this thread would be enough to put anyone of either for life... :loopy: Oh yeah I see what you mean now. It's definately put me off BJJ for life :loopy: Somebody should tell the Gracies. Its doomed ! Doomed I tell ya, doomed. cagn4y 06-01-2007, 13:10 yea, but you're not a new starter are you, and i wasn't referring to bjj, i was referring to local clubs and the friendly and mature attitude displayed by posters on here, for example making :loopy: gestures in reference to a post that wasn't aimed specifically at you...let me know which club you train at, just so as i know to avoid it :shakes: cagn4y 06-01-2007, 13:17 most of the propagandering has been done on behalf of (although apparently not by) GB, and for quite a while from what i can gather - maybe someone from there could say if there numbers on the mat have risen as a result of unconnected people vouching for them? lotar 06-01-2007, 13:40 Every time someone puts some BS on about BJJ , our numbers grow at RG. I wonder why ???? barracuda 06-01-2007, 15:33 Every time someone puts some BS on about BJJ , our numbers grow at RG. I wonder why ???? I wouldn't say there's been any BS about BJJ on here, since the discussion has been about weapons training. And as for numbers growing at RG, surely that would be the same at any club during this time of year ? BarraGergus 06-01-2007, 17:19 BJJ........... is not MMA, just like Karate IS NOT kickboxing please please please stop bringing this up. i know the lads from RG and i saw there fights, i have the up most respect for mark and the boys who enter, i've done it my self and i will openly say.... i wouldn't do it again, because its not my cup of tea...... but i will say this again BJJ IS NOT MMA. chris can triangle me, mark can armbar me, but if one of them punched me we wouldn't be doing bjj. again sorry to rant but im getting sick of this, sorry if i offend some people but it really messes up my head. so in closing BJJ IS NOT MMA, but it does rock. cagn4y 06-01-2007, 18:58 [QUOTE=fingercuffs]Really? So going from how it began (title of thread) = Who's the best BJJ team in Sheffield/area? Which could be reasoned through results in tournaments and current grades at the clubs (BJJ is a performance based art) To how it ended up = Toyhawk offering to send me on holiday to iraq to see if i could talk around the militia and the mention of suicide bombers. Yeah, you might have a pont there champ...[/QUOTE no one actually said 'best' for performance, they simply said 'best', but not 'best' for what (i.e. performance, self-defence, teahing abiloty, 1-2-1 tuition) 'best' is highly subjective...chump...sorry, champ...:hihi: MGRocks 07-01-2007, 20:49 I have a question and hope it won't stir things up again. Who is, pound for pound, the best BJJ fighter in Sheffield? cagn4y 07-01-2007, 21:40 if everyone faced each other in a competition, you'd know who was the best on that given day - if there was a series of competitions you'd probably have a more acurate idea, but without that, you'd be looking at one of the purple belts i would imagine...a purple belt indicates (in my opinion), excellent ability on the mat... Crayfish 07-01-2007, 21:43 Yeah, have some competitions. Interclub things. Be good to dispel some of these rivalry things (such as they are) and have a good time. barracuda 07-01-2007, 23:21 Having rolled with most of them and seen them in various competitions, my money would be on either BJJMAN, TrueBJJ or Mr Cuffs. cagn4y 08-01-2007, 08:00 one guaranteed way of not finding anything out whatsoever though is speculation... barracuda 08-01-2007, 12:14 one guaranteed way of not finding anything out whatsoever though is speculation... ... but since its very unlikey such a competition will take place, the next best thing would be to compare fighters on recent experiences under competition rules/conditions. Carnage 08-01-2007, 13:44 I have a question and hope it won't stir things up again. Who is, pound for pound, the best BJJ fighter in Sheffield? Now this is what I like to see, can't wait to see what people post in answer to this!! I real simple the best bjj fighter between Truebjj and BJJMAN!!! Theres no need for any of them to fight, I think everyone from which ever club would agree with this and there is no need to drag this out that much. But if u measure it on how often they get their butt whupped in thier clubs i bet the guys from GB get beat more, as you would rolling with Black Belts!! PS, see farad still hasn't educated himself on what bjj is yet:huh: BJJMAN 08-01-2007, 14:09 Thanks for all the compliments guys. However i get spanked regularly by everyone (apart from John - I beat him) lol And i kill fingercuffs. Someone else must be the best. Andy (purple belt) also tapped me last lime we rolled. I need to avenge that loss. haha In my opinion though for a big guy Greg is very good and very technical. Johns obviously awesome too really. BarraGergus 08-01-2007, 15:51 cool i rock barracuda 08-01-2007, 16:02 Yeah its a shame Andy moved down south. Fantastic BJJ fighter. Got to the final of the ADCC Spain Trials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhjC1vekVVs) cagn4y 08-01-2007, 17:54 ... but since its very unlikey such a competition will take place, the next best thing would be to compare fighters on recent experiences under competition rules/conditions. in that case i'd ahve to say Paul Chapman - i believe he's something to do with the royce gracie club these days, but he used to train at donny, which is where i'd advice anyone to go if they want to up their game on a regular basis... lotar 08-01-2007, 19:56 Paul Chapman is a top bloke Carnage 08-01-2007, 20:16 I've met Paul briefly, real nice guy:thumbsup: But doesn't he represent on of the Donny Teams?? Seet to remenber seeing him fight in Donny. He had The two Neils in his corner and Ben Popps, nobody from any Sheffield club. I understand he does some coachin at RGN, so can Gracie Barra say Ben who teachs at Sheffield every monday?? PS cagn4y "which is where i'd advice anyone to go if they want to up their game on a regular basis..." Or u can save urself a trip and train with the black belt fron Donny at GB Sheffield for a fiver!! Truebjj 08-01-2007, 20:32 This is defiantly going to turn into my Dads bigger than your Dad so I suggest going no further with this one or I can see people calling people out on others behalf!!! Now just for fun if this was the case....... Having rolled with most of them and seen them in various competitions, my money would be on either BJJMAN, TrueBJJ or Mr Cuffs. This was taken into consideration tonight where they were all in the same room, inc BarraGergus and not to dwell on it or anything but I just walked through them all you should have seen me it was fantastic you know hot knife through butter stuff, I thought we were watching a Fred Astaire move coz the was tap tap tappin all over the place:hihi: Now just watch the excusses come flooding it:thumbsup: BarraGergus 08-01-2007, 21:16 i was tired...... and fat and lazy and you cheated and i blame my instructor for not teachin me proper.... i think the ranking was 1)TrueBJJ 2)Fingercuffs 3)the mighty barra gergus 4)LIL WEE MAN "but your all bigger than me" BJJ MAN so there ita all sorted now who is the best lookin BJJ Fighter in Sheffield? come on do your worst barracuda 09-01-2007, 00:25 I'm guessing the lil wee man would still lose if it went to my Dads bigger than your dad :hihi: Now lets change the topic before he can think up some excuses  cagn4y 09-01-2007, 07:03 I've met Paul briefly, real nice guy:thumbsup: But doesn't he represent on of the Donny Teams?? PS cagn4y "which is where i'd advice anyone to go if they want to up their game on a regular basis..." Or u can save urself a trip and train with the black belt fron Donny at GB Sheffield for a fiver!! used to be in donny, don't think he is anymore... not just the blackbelt instructor, it's the overall quality of the class, so unless everyone from donny travelled down... It seems apparent that despite earlier protestations, most of the people who post on this forum are members of GB Sheffield or freinds of, as most of you all seem to know each other, so there's so much club bias and lack of objectivity that it's really not worth listening to most of you, and quite frankly, it makes GB SHeffield appear underhand and untrustworthy. i won't be able to train at the Royce club, so it looks like i'll be travelling further afield for BJJ, cos i definitely wouldn't train with GB Sheffield having seen there antics on here (or is it mostly there 'friends'? either way, you might get more on the mat if you packed it in - you all obviously think it makes you look like a good club, but the tribalism and bias makes you seem ridiculous and unwelcoming)- funny how people seem so different at seminars and comps.... fingercuffs 09-01-2007, 09:09 used to be in donny, don't think he is anymore... not just the blackbelt instructor, it's the overall quality of the class, so unless everyone from donny travelled down... Snooze-tastic there my friend. Basically, what you should do is ... Understand the fact that this is the internet and people will enjoy ribbing each other. But sometimes it is nice to go out into the real world. I think you'll find that if you go on any other forum on the internet you will see banter happening as it breaks up a dull day at work to have a little fun on t'internet. Dont take it all so personally. I think you will find that most people are pretty decent in real life. Check out this thread for instance, i got offered a free holiday. How cool is that?! Although, i am still waiting on my free tickets to iraq...:( BJJMAN 09-01-2007, 16:50 to start this off this is not an excuse. I just need to straighten things up. I was too busy fighting your germs to worry about you John, you caught me while i was triangling your infection. I swept Greg in sparring (2-0 Paul) I swept Adam a few times but can't remember if i tapped him (its not important though. I won) I came slightly unstuck with John but he is bigger than me and as i say i was worried about getting too close. If the Paul you are all referring to is me then who are you carnage?? Where did we meet mate? Barracuda, i am taller than my dad therefore everyone else is. He was hiding behind a leprechaun (sp?) when he was brought over from Ireland. However i must get being hung like a horse from somewhere so what we lack in height we obviously gain in other places. ;) Heck, where would you rather have the extra inches??? Pound for pound (which is what the question was) I AM THE BEST!!!! hahaha Ps I have trained in Donny but would never say i was part of a club there. I am Gracie Barra Sheffield/Birmingham and, frankly, am better for it. Flame away!!! Crayfish 09-01-2007, 17:03 Pound for pound (which is what the question was) I AM THE BEST!!!! hahaha I think he's got you on the pound for pound bit... ;) BarraGergus 09-01-2007, 17:14 deleted because i may have offended some, i'm a lover not a mma fighter Crayfish 09-01-2007, 17:19 I don't think any of us have said anything all that tribal I've probably been one of the more outspoken and have essentially said that both clubs are very good, although I have ventured an opinion, which I stand by, that the technical standard is probably better at Gracie Barra. It's quite possible that the fitness training, for example, is better at the Royce Gracie club (the people I've known from this club have been very fit, although then again they cross-trained and were active fighters so would have to be). Wouldn't want to give the wrong impression of Gracie Barra as with all other considerations out of the window, it's in the top 3 friendliest training environments of all the clubs I've known (which is quite a lot of clubs). BJJMAN 09-01-2007, 19:43 and it has (arguably) the best POUND FOR POUND fighter!!! ;) barracuda 09-01-2007, 20:26 but don't you need to weigh at least a pound before you can be classed as the best pound for pound fighter ? :hihi: BJJMAN 09-01-2007, 20:34 im in at 1 and a half lb now. (when fully clothed, straight out of the shower!) BJJMAN 09-01-2007, 20:59 Cag4ny - i can't see where you're coming from. We actually all get on with each other. I was talking to Mark (instructor from RGJJN) about 4 days ago. He is a cool guy. I have also trained with them at Graves Tennis Centre on a wednesday. If you don't want to come down and train with us that's fine. Its up to you. But in no way has anyone been tribalistic. There is gonna be bias - just the way there is whenever Chefkicker comes on and shouts the praises of AFK. He is entitled to. Does it make him tribalistic though? NO. If anyone has ever asked me for a place to train when they can't make it to ours i've RECOMMENDED RGJJ. Because they are a great bunch of guys and they have fun training. What you see on here with us all taking the mick out of each other is exactly what happens in the gym (with a lot less farting). I like to think of us all as a bunch of mates who get together a couple of times a week and beat each other up. Stop taking it so seriously mate, its not intended that way by anyone. Truebjj 10-01-2007, 14:52 i was tired...... and fat and lazy and you cheated and i blame my instructor for not teachin me proper.... I was too busy fighting your germs to worry about you John, you caught me while i was triangling your infection. I came slightly unstuck with John but he is bigger than me and as i say i was worried about getting too close. See what I mean excusses! Now I'm old and I was ill, not at 100% and still kicked ur little whipper snapper butts!! And I'll do it again tonight no-gi just to show it wasn't luck:D chefkicker 10-01-2007, 15:14 Cag4ny - i can't see where you're coming from. We actually all get on with each other. You know i have never met Bjjman , ive met barragergus and have sat with and commentated (and always do enjoy commentating with him) Truebjj (jon from Gracie) , and think hes a smashing fella but i will say the following: BJJMAN'S POST ABOVE WAS THE BEST ON THIS THREAD EVER!!! So full respect to Bjjman for what he said. The answer you are looking for is: Both clubs are very good but have different assets and are good for different things in different ways. Which is better? Trout or Seabass? Ask my son riyadh (who is 3) hell say "trout and seabass" ask him on some days hell say " no seabass, trout!" one day he said " seabass is better than trout" So its down to what you are looking for. Sorry if ive upset the trouble makers. BarraGergus 10-01-2007, 16:38 sea bass is better than trout.... and well said farad. but i'm still the best looking bjj fighter Crayfish 10-01-2007, 16:44 sea bass is better than trout.... and well said farad. but i'm still the best looking bjj fighter Only for those periods of time when I'm calling myself an MMA fighter or kickboxer ;) barracuda 10-01-2007, 18:55 but i'm still the best looking bjj fighter ......:gag: BarraGergus 10-01-2007, 20:27 you all know its true.... lotar 10-01-2007, 22:24 I am the best looking with the biggest knob !!!!! all who know me can vouch for this. BJJ is great , knife defense is great. Peace out brothers !!!!! chefkicker 13-01-2007, 14:46 sea bass is better than trout.... and well said farad. but i'm still the best looking bjj fighter Barragergus , Of course you are the best looking bjj fighter, youre all ugly anyway :P Especially that tall lanky one with long hair who wears rock t shirts. How do you prepare Seabass or Trout for that matter, you being a chef would know that wouldnt you. We have a cooking thread on my forum. Log on and share your knowledge? cagn4y 14-01-2007, 06:58 things change and i never made it to sheffield the first time. and so here i am again, i couldnt find my original thread so posed the question again, is that such a bad thing? why do schools have league tables? so parents can find out which is best for there kids or to start a fight between them. I am serious about carrying on my BJJ and also about TUF. aggressive posturing etc isnt down to me, more those who replied. if you didn't make it to sheffield yet, how come you put up a post in feb 2006 promoting 'urban gorillas' and saying you'd be there? have you even read any of your old posts... maybe you and barracuda have some kind of plot, given that you both joined the forum approx. same time, both been in the states, both have incredibly loyalty and bias to GB Sheffield before even training there...maybe you're one and the same... cagn4y 14-01-2007, 07:01 So, because Mr Cuffs doesn't have any experience in weapon defence he isn't allowed to have an opinion ? apparently chefkicker shouldn't be allowed to speak about bjj cos he doesn't have the 'necessary experience' - why shouldn't the same apply? BarraGergus 14-01-2007, 09:23 just drop it..... leave be barracuda 14-01-2007, 16:41 if you didn't make it to sheffield yet, how come you put up a post in feb 2006 promoting 'urban gorillas' and saying you'd be there? have you even read any of your old posts... maybe you and barracuda have some kind of plot, given that you both joined the forum approx. same time, both been in the states, both have incredibly loyalty and bias to GB Sheffield before even training there...maybe you're one and the same... Jeez, you've got some issues. I'm not bias to GB at all. In the past I've probably trained at GB and RGJN the same amount of time, although I do prefer GB now with the BB classes. And before that I used to train with Andy Roberts at CastleBBA before my trip to the states. If there were any other BJJ club in Sheff I'd also give them a go too. And I can assure you I'm not want2learn :) Why would I ask about BJJ clubs when I'm already aware of those in and around Sheffield ? Now can we just leave it now ? the_rage 14-01-2007, 20:25 Lotar you are a sexy guy, almost as good looking as me. All I ask is you dont T-bag me on monday. catch you later chefkicker 15-01-2007, 07:15 apparently chefkicker shouldn't be allowed to speak about bjj cos he doesn't have the 'necessary experience' - why shouldn't the same apply? I am a black belt in WTF TKD and have competed in full contact TKD but not trained for a few years as I got into MMA and enjoyed the grappling side. I would like to get fitter again (I am mid 40's now so no spring chicken) and would like to get back into training and hopefully competing in a few amateur tournements before I get too old. Thanks Hi Grappler Come along to one of the beginners classes if you like or even to a Friday session. Friday we do 2 classes, 6-7pm or 7-830pm. 6-7pm is an open session where I wil be available for a bit of pad holding with you and to show you a few basic boxing drills (youre kicking should probably be quite good seeing your background). As for amateur tournaments, I promote a few of them so the opportunity is there. See you at one of the classes , ring me on 07775 914155 Farhad |
