Following on form the previous thread about drainage responsibility, if the sewer pipe gets blocked on a private property who is responsible? I ask as we had a blockage just inside the boundary of our property, we managed to get it clear by rodding it, but what if we couldn't have cleared it? We live in an ex council house but all the sewerage was coming from the still council properties up the road, silly women flushing whole sanitary towels was the main culprit, if they have a problem they call the council.

Do we have to pay or can we call the water company?

In our row of terraces, it's in our deeds that the yard in which the sewer that's blocked is contained will split the costs 4 ways- I believe that you'd need to consult your deeds to get a definitive answer to this question.

The mortgage place has our deeds, we live in an ex council semi and next door is a council property so it might be different, I just wondered if someone might have been in the same situation, thanks though.

Clearing the drain from your access chamber to the main drainis your res; if the main is blocked it's the councils

wether you live in a council property or private property the drainage is going to be either the council or water board controlled ,the fact that you have a sewer( rider sewer) running down the back of your house is a common thing these days and people often ask who is responsible for blockages.
Heres the answer.( its a long one).
If your house is pre-1936 then its the responsibility of the water authority if built after its down to the council unless you have had the manhole installed yourself.
Take the advice i sent you in the pm that always works, need any help with that then let me know
