You might have read in other posts that I recently moved from Beighton to Wadsley. I lived in Beighton for only 2 1/2 years, but knew the area having previously lived in Eckington. I miss it so much that whenever I see the word "Beighton" I get a lump in my throat! Our house was tiny and we had tried for ages to get another larger house in the same area but couldnt, so we ended up here. Im getting used to it, the upside is there are lots and lots of shops and everthing is on the doorstep in Hillsborough. But I still wished I had stayed put. I really do miss it.

I never missed the place where I grew up, nor the place where I lived when we were first married, I was always glad to move. I cant get my head around this, its a new experience for me.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does it go away in time?

No it doesn't go away, if you feel at ease somewhere and comfortable unless you replace that like for like (which you haven't) i still think you will miss it. Life is to short up route and move back if it makes you happy, that's what I did when i made this mistake:D

Hi Yellowrose,

From my experience, and I've moved all over (9 different places in 12 years (due to work relocations!) I do miss different places for varying reasons.

I wouldnt want to go back and live at some of the locations permanently though! Just nice to pass through every now and again to reminisce.

Give it a bit of time and if you both feel the same way - you can always move back right? Weigh up all the pro's and con's of both places on a piece of paper and maybe that will help you make your decision.

If you feel you are being pulled back there for some reason, and you do seem to feel strongly about it, maybe you shouldnt rule it out completely in the future.

If you have only recently moved - give it some time though - i think it does takes a wee while to settle anywhere and find your feet properly.

I dont know any of Sheffield personally, but im learning fast thanks to this forum! Sheffield is my next job stop! Hoping to make a home for life there though now, as my hubbys folks are from a village not far away. We can't be a pair of wandering travellers all our life, although I do wonder if i'll have problems settling down permanently in one place !!! It seems a SCARY prospect to me!!!

Dont be put off going back to a "tiny" house either - see it as "cosy" instead :) - thats what i am going to do when i buy next! No option though really - we will have to compromise on size just to be able to afford to buy in the area we prefer.

I think Kitty's post is spot on, do whatever willl make you both happy - you definately dont want to still be feeling like this 3 or 4 years down the line - life is far too short!

All the best :)
