Okay...

I remember a dobie owner asking this question on another forum once but can't remember what answer she got. My nearly 18 month old dally has got a fly away ear :( It doesn't bother her, and I love her as she is, and I'm not bothered about it affecting showing her - I'll always take the best dog home. It just bothers me because she looks so damn thick

Does anyone know what you can do with them, and whether 18 months old is too old to mould the cartilage into it's 'proper' shape:confused:

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thankyou

A mini schnauzer owner has informed me that this could be due to her season as the ears tend to 'fly' when teething or in season.

So there's a bit of info for any of you with unspayed bitches with sticky out ears :hihi: It means she's coming into season :P

Apparently it's typical of schnauzers.

Has she had it from a young age?. It is possible to tape them, commonly done with Boxers, but not sure if 18 months is too old or not. Have a chat with her breeder and see what they recommend as they will no doubt have experience in it.

Thanks blues...

I've only really noticed it relatively recently. I thought about taping it, but like you wasn't too sure if 18 months was too late.

Trouble is, Takara would work out how to get it undone and it'd irritate her far too much...

I will have a chat with her breeder anyway and see if she can suggest anything...

It's when it sticks out comically to the side instead of hanging sensibly in the direction gravity would have it do ;)

We had a Skye Terrier about 20 odd years ago and she went through a phase, whilst in young adulthood, where her ears didnt stand up as they were supposed to. They went sort of half up and out to the side, and werent even. It was temporary and they sorted themselves out without any intervention.

thanks for that yellowrose, Takara's only 18months so hopefully it'll just put itself right like your's did.

Was at the LKA dog show yesterday with 3 of mine. saw a young boxer there with his ears taped. Seems they sometimes suffer fly away ears too

I cant imagine our old dog standing for her ears taping! When she was spayed we got up next morning to find she had somehow removed her stitches!!!
