Why did the Food court close in Orchid Square and when?
I remember going in there years ago, it was always doing fine when I was there.

The whole of that side of the building where the food court became the department store, TK Maxx, well, the basement and the ground floor, anyway. I think the upper level (which used to be open, it isn't, now) is offices or storage.

The shops on the Stonehouse side of the building are still there... a couple of takeaways/ delis, a handbag/ toiletries shop, and a paper shop...

I used to go in twice a week and it was always rammed. They had a fairly good range of food available and finding a table was a nightmare. TK MAXX is tacky crap....why bother?

I always thought the food was very good also. What went wrong?

Ah yes.. ham and mushroom pancakes sitting next to the crocodile .. hehe :)

The toilets were also very clean and efficient, a rare event in this fair city

Heh... true. Except to get to them, you had to walk through a wall of fish and chip odour that came from the unit adjacent to the bogs. :D

i seem to remember there used to be a nursery upstairs, or is my mind playing tricks and im confused with somewhere else,i agree about the food court it was good and could have been as good as going to crystal peaks!

The stairs that went down to the food court were badly designed if you were wearing a skirt everyone in the food court could see right up it

I thought the food court was ok,it was always full and at lunch time Alan King(Alan Kings pianos london road) used to entertain everyone while dining. Also remember the plastic crokodile etc in the fountains.

Ahh I remember the food court in Orchard Square very well.

Used to love it downstairs there, so lovely and the best toilets in the city!

Yes there was a creche upstairs my daughter used to love going shes 18 now.

Me 'n' the Mrs. used to get our dinner at the chip shop, until they served us a couple of rounds of mouldy bread.
We swapped allegiance to another restaurant in there called Sheff's Original, I think, if I remember rightly they served Yorkshire food.

my son and nephew went to the crech once too and there 22 and 24 now

awww I remember it as well, I'm 20 now and I used to go in with my mum, I'd totally forgotten about it until I saw this thread..

we used to go in there and use the toilets, hang around occasionly when we used to hang around on the fountain :)

I reckon is was around 1998 when it shut?

i used to love going there as a kid for lunch and watching the crocodile. its such a shame it closed. :(

They did the most amazing ham and pineapple bagels!

I was just talking about the food court to my OH the other day....he is a Sheffielder whereas I am not.....he doesn't remember it at all :(

I used to like it there and now my memory has been jogged I remember the piano too :D

brilliant reminds me of dinner with my nannan sat next to the crocodile im sure we used to throw pennies into it and make a wish too ,,good times !!:D

I remember the crocodile. The food court was a really great place to go at lunchtimes. I used to take my daughter there when she was quite young. I thought it awful when it was all closed down and TK Maxx put there in its place.

I also used to take my daughter to the creche.
