Tape it up in a plastic bag (or shower cap)

This is quiet easy. You put your foot in a large plastic bag. You will need a good seal around the top. A good seal is extremely hard to get if you just tape around your leg and water will get in, so I have a better method. Simply pull the plastic bag up over your head and get a helper to tie it in a knot.

when I had pot on my arm, I put couple of layers of cling film around it. just make sure you overlap the seams.

Yacht varnish.
