Hi everyone, having a labrador the lawn has turned pretty quickly into a mudbath.
Has ayone got any tips, is there anything I can do to dry it up a bit or do I just have to keep wellies next to the door and reseed in the spring?

you could try spiking it with a fork and spreading some sharp sand on it. it does work and then when spring comes (after frost) sow some more grass seed.
You could always get out there with a fork and put holes all over it - that way it will aid drainage down. Any standing water can be brushed off otherwise keep the dog and everyone off it...
Darnit - beat me to it :)
Thanks for the advice
So the sand wont kill off the remaining few tufts of grass then? Where do I get sharp sand? At the garden centre?

no the sand won't kill the grass, I got ours from B&Q it's only about 1.50 per bag.
The hardest bit is spiking the soil with the garden fork, but this is really important as it helps with the drainage.

Sorry, it's really annoying when that happens isn't it!!
in the long term, does spreading compost help?
I think it's the clay soil that causes this problem in Sheffield - and adding organic material breaks it up and aids drainage.
Just spread it on top and let the worms do the work, but choose your weather carefully - if it's dry, it could just blow away. If it's too wet you can't spread it.
