View Full Version : Are there any Irish bars in Sheffield? Triangle 08-09-2004, 19:11 I am originally from Sheffield and married an Irishman. We are relocating back to Sheffield and wondered if any one knows of any Irish Pubs? mikey 08-09-2004, 19:41 Dog and Partridge and Fagans are your best bet. These are real Irish pubs, not your national chain type Irish Theme bar. Great pint of the black stuff and live music bellis 08-09-2004, 23:22 fagins isnt a irish bar its run by a john cleese lookalike and is the local after work pub for the cops at west bar:P :P :P :P :P :P max 09-09-2004, 07:24 Does the priest from St Vincents still drink in The Red House? If so, then that's a pub with an Irish flavour. mikey 09-09-2004, 07:56 Originally posted by panda79 fagins isnt a irish bar its run by a john cleese lookalike and is the local after work pub for the cops at west bar:P :P :P :P :P :P Not sure about the John Cleese lookalike Last time I was in there was a big fella behind the bar, who played and sings a few songs and he was deffo Irish. Go in on a friday night and there is a lot of the Irish community in there. Triangle 27-09-2004, 10:56 Does anyone know of any Irish pubs/bars in and around the Sheffield area? PaulV 27-09-2004, 11:56 Dog and Partridge, Trippet Lane. Fagan's, West Bar. mimicraze 27-09-2004, 13:27 hi triangle, yes, theyre the only pubs that i go to! I have arranged a meet up on the 16th of October, and were going to the red house, solly street, dog and partridge and fagans, so would be good to see you there :) lindsay x max 27-09-2004, 13:30 Similar threads merged. seanmac 28-09-2004, 13:29 I'm from Ireland and the only authentic Irish pub I have come across is the Dog & Partridge. Bar man was sound but place was a bit grotty. Fagans is apparently good but never been there. Thankfully the plethora of new age irish bars are been phased out but the city is in desperate need for a couple of nice, genuine irish bars that show irish sport mimicraze 28-09-2004, 13:33 Go to the Dog every monday night, theres a folk session i play in in there and its just like being in a pub in ireland in a folk session, from my experience when i travelled around ireland playing in pub sessions :) its fab, and i dont think its grotty atall, but its all amatter of opinion. If you go in Fagans on say, a sunday evening, youll find that there are mostly irish people having a quiet drink in there, so you should have a look, also brilliant folk sessions ive played in there. silversurfer 02-10-2004, 18:08 Dog and Partridge everytime, get some great music in the JFK room, friendly atmosphere, never seen any trouble, never had any. Thumbs up to Ann. They also have a dog called guiness! Carborundum 03-10-2004, 13:16 Yes the dog and partridge and fagins are two good real irish pubs. Monday nights is really good for live music - last time I was there about 15 musicians turned up for an ad hoc jam - it was great. Music in Fagins tends to be more "electric" and in back room - sometimes Tom the landlord's son plays too and does a mean tom petty rendition ... mimicraze 04-10-2004, 12:37 patrick, youll have probably seen me playing in there on a monday night then, saxophone and whistle?? ring any bells? might pop over tonight for a couple of pints :) were meeting there on the 16th of october for a meet up! see the notices and events thread for details! linds x Carborundum 04-10-2004, 22:05 Yes rings a bell ... hope to see you play again - sadly Monday nights are my evening art course so will have to wait till half-term or hol times now kilauea 11-10-2004, 09:36 well there are irish bars in every other city in the world (saw 1 in ibiza and 3 in barcelona last week!) so I'd be suprised if sheffield was missing out! Can't see the attraction myself, I love going to dublin (not temple bar I should add!). I Just don't see how that atmosphere could travel (and from the ones I've been in it doesn't).
