With the advent of internet downloads etc

Does anyone still buy CD's?

Personally I've not bought one for about 4 years but still have an up to date music collection ;)

I do, partly cause my connection is too slow to download music- 56k :( but getting broadband soon hopefully!

In terms of swapping CDs with friends to copy them, I can say that I do that.

If I feel an artist really deserves their CD to be bought then I'll buy it, e.g. Led Zeppelin....

I buy CD's still, but only in sales... and generally online web-sites cus I know a few that are dirt cheap... but I dont buy that many... I download a lot more...

I have like over 10gigs of MP3's on my HD right now.. lol... although a lot of them are ripped from CD's I own... a lot of them aren't ;)

generally I download an album, if i like it, i'll consider buying it when it drops out of that £15 catagory :P then again, a listen to a lot of older 60's and 80's metal stuff... so a lot of those are still expensive now...

although the other day www.101cd.com had a great sale on Metallica and Iron Maiden CD's :D

I have no PC at home, and also believe in supporting the artists so I still buy CDs...

About 1/2 and 1/2 - around 40 CDs are bought (pre - buying my burner) and the rest of them are either CD-CDR straight copy from someone elses , or downloaded at 192k from p2p .

So, in short - not since about 2002.

I have around 7 albums downloading at the moment - none of which I would have actually bought. Just as they are "free", that's why I'm downloading them.

I have all my music on iTunes [as mp3, a few albums are AAC files (Mp4s)] (so far 1368 songs, 4.1 days, 8 GB)

I buy good music and Occasionally download a couple of tracks from an album to see if its worth buying it then get rid of them.

On a whole, My collection is made up of Original CDs excpet for a soundtrack CD that isnt available in the shops.

If I like an album I will buy it. I don't listen to manufactured drivel, I listen to music from talented people who have worked hard and deserve support. It annoys me when people go on about how great it is that they never buy CD's and music being much to expensive, your average CD can be bought for the equivalent of 4 pints and lasts much longer! I have copied CD's which I do listen to but I do try to buy music that's good on a regular basis. I bought Ulrich Strauss's 2 albums, Magnet, Colleen, Nature boy, all things that I thought were brilliant at the Big Chill festival but are not such big artists that they earn much money from it.
Help them out else they might just give up!

I still buy about 3-4 albums a month on average (last one was Kasabians debut on Monday), and only own about 3 copied ones. I guess i'm the type of person that needs something tangible in my hands, not some whizzy electronic guff (MP3s etc), plus I like to think I'm contributing in some way to the band. Plus who can argue with taking a chance on some of the £5 albums in Fopp, its practically giving them away!

Yep, still do. I like to support the bands whom I like.

Half and half like someone else said.

If there's a song I REALLY like, I'll do both, buy it and download it... But for the most part I download old 80s tunes and stuff you can't really get in the shops, ie not the teeny bopper trash that dominates the charts at the moment....

Same here, just a vast few of my collection are copies, some are the promo albums you can buy at gigs etc and the rest are all original.. :D

I know what you mean - I like CDs because I've got somthing I can put on my shelf and re-arrange when i get bored. Maybe that sounds silly but I much prefer putting a CD on to playing an MP3.

I've never been an avid music fan and I just tend to listen to the radio. If I take a liking to a certain song I'll try to remember it's name and then download it if I get time (56k..boo).

I rarely buy CDs, it really is something daft like once every few years but I had a rush of blood the other week and got two albums. Scissor Sisters and Keane and I'm extremely happy with both of them. Scissor Sisters are fab and funky.

i mainly buy back cataloge cds mainly when there in a sale at hmv or somthing lets face it cds are vastly overpriced come on 17.99 for a non chart cd is not on why dont the record companies charge 9.99 for a full price cd and 4.99 for back catalogue see your sales improve quite simple really:thumbsup:

I'm buying more CDs than ever now. Yes you can download the music and so on, but there’s something tangible about the CD that I like. For me the medium is part of the art form. It’s like the difference between a poster and an oil painting. Yes a poster is nice, but an oil painting has more of an emotional impact on me. I know the music's the same music but...
...call me old fashioned...
I'm the kind of guy who would rather have no Rolex than a perfect fake one.
When musicians release their music only on the web then that's when I'll be convinced that this digital medium is part of the art form...

I agree totally with Mr_E and RPG. I'd rather have the real thing. Quite apart from the fact I work in the music industry, I feel a burnt/downloaded CD has no intrinsic value and is not something to be valued like a "real" one.

I have downloaded rare and unreleased tracks naturally, but if/when they are officially released, I'll buy/blagg the real thing every time.

I still buy cd's. If you've got enough patience and can be bothered looking around shops (both in town and online) you'll never have to pay more than a tenner for a cd.

Chris.

I buy loads of CDs. Usually second hand or albums that have been out for a while, but I'm going against tradition and buying *four* new releases in seven weeks at the moment :o
(Charlotte Hatherly, Bjork, Garbage, Thirteen Senses)

Flicking through rows of carefully arranged CDs, or looking at a screen with loads of little folders in a window. Easy choice methinks

I think the last time i bought a cd (for myself) must about 2 years a go now. I did used to buy quite a few, but the internet seems to have replaced all that now....

modern music, rather than any other reason, is why I don't buy CDs anymore.

Some stuff I like (usually played on the Kerrang DAB channel) but I don't like the full album. So why is the cost buying a CD single so prohibitive? Answer: To encourage people to buy the album. Well, if devious selling techniques are used this way, the I will use tools at my disposal to select one track I like.

As opposed to younger days when I'd be all too happy to rush out and buy a single I heard on the radio - 7" single on vinyl that is, at a reasonable cost.

I've even been known in recent times to "tape" a song off the radio!!!...altogether now..

C30 C60 C90 Go
off the radio I get a constant flow
hit it, pause it, record it and play
turn it, rewind, and rub it away

Remember kids...

Home taping is killing music
