From the amount of threads on the SF regarding the trouble with Free/Cut Price broadband I think by going cheap there is a price to pay with poor support, terminating of connections, very slow at peak times and the initial set up of the kit from the company. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!! What do you think?

Well I have resisted the urge to change supplier. I have TW bb and been with them since they started with Dial up before the days of BB for all. No problems, a reliable service and free support.

I have to say I wouldn't take the risk msyelf.

I'm happy to pay a little over the odds and then I'll feel less guilty if I ever need to get really crabby with the supplier. Having said that, I've never had to do that in the 3 and a half years I've been with BT.

Mine is supplied by the company I work for so I can't really complain either way, but the support is excellent! My neighbours are with the TalkTalk/Tiscali ilk and have nothing but trouble. If I was looking for Broadband I think I would try Force9. I say this because it is a Sheffield company and I feel we should be supporting local business. I used to have dial up with them and found them very professional in their support. Also its a 0845 number (local rate), so no £1.50 a minute for support. And no, I don't have financial interest in Force9 or indeed work for them.

I would steer clear of F9 at the moment. At least until BT decide what they are going to do with them.

Obviously something I don't know? Please tell?
I still have an email account with them, but thats as far as it goes these days!

I am with TalkTalk, after initial problems getting installed ie waiting from May to Oct for broadband to be installed, no problems with the actual broadband. never had probs logging on at any time. It was very easy to install, on the whole quite pleased.

I'm afraid the problem is universal. We pay £27.99 a month for BT broadband and continually get poor speeds and disconnections. We frequently lost connection completely for several hours at a time.

I have a high speed (8MB) connection to Bulldog. Once it is installed, and provided it doesn't break and you don't query your bill, then it is fast and good value. If you have cause to contact them because of a problem then you need luck, stamina, heart monitoring, blood pressure tablets and a spare broadband line with a reputable supplier.

I should pay about £40 a month including landline calls but recently received an erroneous bill for £350 which I didn't pay. I couldn't look at the bill itself because their online system won't show me any of my bills. The billing department simply tell me to read my bills and make a complaint about them via email to the complaints department who will try to get back to me within 3 days, but never actually do. Eventually they disconnected my line because I wouldn't pay the bill so I called them and threatened to sue, but they didn't care. They also infomed me that I now owed them another £130, which would be 3 times what a month should cost. Again I couldn't look at my bills. The only suggestion I got was that I go down to a library and email the complaints department and then run home to see if they ring me back.

I gave up and paid them and now I am having to take them to court for my money back.

I'm with Talk Talk. Took a while to set up e-mail accounts as the instructions were misleading. The connection does 'drop' occasionally - and the e-mail validation server often seems to be down (better recently though).

Never had broadband before so nothing to compare to but for £22/month with all calls in, seems ok to me.

Heard other people who had had no end of trouble though.

i had telewest BB for two years but i have just had it removed because their TV service was rubbish & more expensive compaired to sky. i never had any problems with TWBB service, i could always talk to a person if i did have any problems with anything (TV, phone or internet). but now i have had sky installed because they seem to have much better TV equipment, cheaper TV packages & they have started doing broadband in my area.
