I'm New to Sheffield and i was wondering if anyone could tell me about Heavy Metal / Death Metal / 80's Metal clubs or bars in or around the centre???

Your best bet is the Corporation nightclub on Milton Street - Fridays and Saturday nights should cater for all your needs.

Dove and rainbow is a good Metal Pub.

Leadmill do some Metal Nights.

Corporation is probably the best though...

Classic Rock bar has some metal nights too, as i am sure you will be told soon enough ;)

Corp and Leadmill defintly will become your regular places if your into Metal...

also, theres a thing on at Sheffield Hallam Union, used to be every Wednesday but then they changed it to once a month... maybe back to every Wed again this year?

anyways, thats the "Revolt" night... not all metal, but alternative music, better than all the pop/trance/dance crap at the other places ;)

BTW big tip, DO NOT i repeat DO NOT go to Corp on a wednesday if your a bloke... for some reason it generally is full of skin-head lesbians... you have been warned :P

The Nelson pub, opposite McDonald's at the top of the Moor plays metal (80's and 90's) quite a lot.

I think the busiest nights are Friday and Saturday nights. On a Saturday they have downstairs open for 80's rock and metal, and upstairs mostly for more modern rock and metal.

With regards to death metal, or any other extreme metal, I think your best bet is the Corporation on a Saturday night. They occasionally play the odd death metal track.

I thought sheffield was supposed to be good for the metal scene?

no there is no "death metal" dedicated club... but one room in Corp on Monday's and Fridays and Saturdays is purely metal... all sorts of metal, thankfully the DJ's are actually cool and realise Linkin Spark suck donkey balls!

Seriously, Corp is the way to go!

Yorkshireman's has been Lions Lair for a year or two now. Definitely not a rock pub!

after that you could say nu-metal....

u got the classic rock part ok...

nu-metal are bands like korn, limp bizkit etc

i was talking about Death Metal.... Mithras, Deicide (no i have not spelt decide wrong), Morbid Angel, nile etc etc

I doubt there's anywhere that has or will play death metal in any quantity in sheffield. Sadly it tends to clear dance floors faster than cyanide.

Stepping on to the nu metal thingy, I noticed they played Linkin park in res rocks room at corp last saturday. Never seen some people move to the dance floor so fast (some even left their zimmer frames behind in the rush!!) :) Damn strangest thing I ever saw.

Dove and Rainbow plays metal/punk.
Sportsman has a good mix.
Nelson plays a lot of good and varied music and has different nights, last time I went in on a Saturday they played quite a big of death and thrash metal.
There's the Classic rock bar on Ecclesall road.
There's the Casbah, but I haven't been in for a while.
And Corporation (night club) on a Saturday night has a lot of good music, especially on the top floor. They play quite a bit of death metal at different stages of the night.

Corporation on a Saturday night is the closest you'll get. Don't bother going on any other day.

Revolt has changed now it is now a general alternative night, basically giving space to anyone who wants to play random stuff. They are trying to attract a bigger more general crowd.


Much better is Fuzz Club on Thursdays at Sheff uni. One room of Indie and one of Rock and Punk.

Best of all Snake Bite and Black is about £1 a pint and jack Daniels and coke is criminally cheap. Always a nice happy night out.

and if you go on Thursday you can kick Steve LaMack in the shin

yeah you could try the metal room @ corp.

i love fuzz club at sheffield uni. it's always a really good way to meet people and the music is generally really good. jägermeister=£1 !!!!! :banana:

That's true, once when my band was playing at the grapes and Muitilated to Perfection were playing after us. MTP are a good talented band but sadly they're not everyone's thing- They're not really mine but I enjoy watching them play for the excellent set that they put on.

We had a good crowd but when MTP came on a lot of people left :blush: I felt really bad for MTP who are really nice guys.

The CRB play a lot of music by local bands....
In terms of playing death metal, we have Steel City Metal who host one night per month with Death Metal. Check out the listings in Notices and Events as to when they take place. Just think....a whole night of grunting! Yay!

I wasn't aware that revolt was on anymore, last time I looked on the hallam website it wasn't listed anywhere. We used to like revolt :).

I have to say that I thought Fuzz club was the worst night I have ever been to anywhere. Such a large indie crowd means there are loads of idiots who've seen too many Slipknot videos but don't have any respect for the people that enjoy the music.

It's the only time i've ever seen a girl being carried of the dance floor pish'ing blood from her nose cos some guy hit her......and personally I never want to see it again. Oh yeah and the playlist kinda sucked as it had to take into account the increased softage of the audience's musical tastes.

what are some of you on about? Theres led zep, hendrix, motorhead, sabbath, deep purple, thin lizzy, and a whole load more that get played in the club on a saturday ASWELL as on a monday.

You are SO totally wrong. I go quite alot to the club and you can see me shaking my hair twice a week.

Corp is ace - as for metal at the Leadmill, thats news to me.....

Ahh those were the days...

Saturday afternoon, start off in the Wapentake 12.00 until 3pm, then onto the Mailcoach for an afternoon of tunes and laughs, stop for some chips on the way to the Hornblower then back to the wap before taking in the dove and rainbow on our way to rebels.

Fall down the stairs at rebs round about 2am to stoneys for a dodgy kebab which would be eaten on the steps of BHS before taxis home, (or a walk if we had spent up)

So what would be the 21st century rockers saturday bar crawl?

Wapentake = now the poxy casbah

Mailcoach = irish bar now more like a cocktail bar

Hornblower= demolished to make way for posh apartments

Dove= bloody hell its still there!!!!!

Rebels= health and safely hazard- we only managed to get up and down those stairs for over 20 years without major incident! so that too is gone

The geography of rock bars now means you have to wear your hiking boots to do it or drive (no fun) or just pick a pub and stick to it

Does anyone still do all day pub crawls? The last one I did was roughly the same circuit, back that was around 1991. If I tried to start drinking at Noon now I would be out of my tree by 4pm.......bit out of practice...

I think we're all a bit past it now-lol
But if we did fancy a trip down memory lane its slim pickin's.

91 is about the same time I used to do the scary all day session.
