Hi

Not sure how far you are from Chelford market but that is where we got our 3 from. Best to buy Bluebell chickens, each hen lays approx;250 per year and are v.good temprement. Only 6pound each.

Damien J, I know this might come across as gruesome, but I need to ask: do you keep chickens soley for eggs or for, well, their other eating purpose?!

Damine J, I've copied this to the 'Wanted' section as well, see what replies you get.

Hi,
We have lots of chickens on allotments in Darnall.
We could sell you some cheaply. Most have just started to lay.
Do you know what chicks you want? Are they for eggs, meat or just entertainment ( with eggs occasionally) They are really interesting to keep.
Hope that helps

The best layers are Warrens. You can buy them as ex-battery hens for 50p. They are in an awful state when you get them but it's supposed to be nice to see them recover.
We have some Warrens and they are lovely hens, but always hungry. They we £4.50 each from the Admag They are bred not to go broody so don't have baby chicks and we have none spare to sell.
We have Lavender Pekins, Buff light Sussex ( Trios, a Cockerel and two hens) and Partridge Wyndotte hens to spare.
Nice if someones interested as we love to show off our chickens.

Thanks redox but bought some already now. A light sussex, a RIR and a polish (she was so damn cute) We have had 2 eggs already altho not sure who it is that is laying them. Bought from storrs poultry in oxbridge. The guy was really nice. Showed me all his stock, there was a lot to choose from. The brahma's were ENORMOUS. Have to say though, not cheep but the chickens do look really well, nice weight, glossy feathers and in good health so I suppose it's money well spent.
