View Full Version : Our property move private
mrsooner 02-12-2006, 13:30 Has anyone seen the Sell your house for free fposters in the Town?
We have our house on the market in Broomhill and yesterday had a flyer through the door from them about selling privately and not paying.
Is is right to sell privately or do we need an agent to sell it?
Many thanks,
So long as you get a solicitor to deal with the legal side of it, an estate Agents needn't ever know your house is even for sale.
You'll escape agent fees but struggle to find custom.
Ask youself "how are they paying for the flyers"
... then right after that, ask yourself "how are they doing it for 'free' ? "
mrsooner 02-12-2006, 14:09 I've just been reading their information and its free for a 30 day trial...
What do you mean by ask myself how they pay for their flyers? Do you mean they work for someone like Rightmove?
I don't know who they are, but obviously they need to charge people at some point? There's no such thing as a free lunch. ;)
geckoqueen 02-12-2006, 16:18 We bought our first house privately and cutting out the middle man was the best move we ever made. If you're selling privately you don't need to pay/use this company - put ads on here and in the Star or a big poster in a window.
bensonhedges 02-12-2006, 16:36 One more time for anyone who might have missed it - "If it seems too good to be true......."
By the way there is NO legal requirement to sell your property through an agent or to use a solicitor. ALL thery supposedly do is to cut out the work for you but I'm not entirely sure if that's absolutely true.

Myfriend sold her house that way, no agent or solicitor, the no agent part was fine, but doing the work of a solicitor she said she would have second thoughts about having to do that part again even though all went well.
Anyhow you pay a solicitor to make sure it's done right, then they send a secretary to do all the paper work , tital search ect , you're paying him not her!
bettydavid 04-12-2006, 08:38 We've just put our house on the site to see what interest we get, doesn't cost us anything.
I'm keen to save some money but I really think using a solicitor is money well spent. I'm not keen on getting it wrong when it comes to the law.
I will post our house on this forum too as its free but you can't post pictures like you can on ourpropertymove.co.uk and we've got a for sale board being sent free in the post too! If others are selling without an agent then we're keen to try..put some pennies in our pocket for christmas

You don't need an agent in order to sell your house. Just stick a sign in the garden:thumbsup:.
babychickens 04-12-2006, 10:08 no, you don't need an agent, but an agent will almost invariably be able to make more people aware of your house, so you need to think how much that is realistically worth. we thought of selling privately, but we're glad we didn't - for the princely sum of £1500, saxton mee managed to get around 3 dozen viewings in the space of a week, and it really hiked the price of our house up, probably substantially more than if we'd sold privately - £1500 was definitely worht it for us.
rightmove.co.uk is run on behalf of estate agents - i doubt very much taht your property will go on that particular website if you don't sell through a normal agent.
bettydavid 06-12-2006, 08:35 We've just had two viewings last night, both are renting and want a quick sale. The good thing about ourpropertymove is you get to add photos and its free for 30 days, I doubt we'll sell this time of year but good to be getting some interest through the door. Anyone else interested see us here ourpropertymove.co.uk
Try www.thehomegame.net - A friend used them - very cheap compared to other estate agents
bettydavid 07-12-2006, 09:49 I agree with what you say and we are now on the market with www.ourpropertymove.co.uk. Its free for thirty days trial so can't complain with that.
The thing which sold it for me was an article in the daily mail paper on them..
tried to do a search on for it but all I found was this:
http://www.articledashboard.com/Article/Save-an-average--3000-when-selling-or-letting-your-property-/124324
same kind of read.
