One has to question quite how many huskies one family needs bluesandtwos. Are you just all broody and in love with them?
Keeping 3 out of the litter- how many would that mean you had?:suspect: :suspect:
Gorgeous pups, I'd want to keep them all!!
Jayne

bluesandtwos 02-12-2006, 17:29 We currently have 7 grown ups of assorted ages. as to how many we need, well, its a working thing. One race team is 4 dogs, we are aiming for two, plus we show as well. sure may seem a lot of dogs to 'non-husky' folk and takes a husky person to understand, but owning around the 10-12 mark is pretty common in husky owners. Very few huskies are singular pets in houses that show or work them. Our dogs (in common with a lot of husky owners) live inside, with permanent access to outside. we dont keep them in kennels or runs. They are very contented as living as they were designed, as a pack.
Oh sorry blues - thought you had 6...
I don't think medusa meant anything by it... it does seem odd to someone like me who has two dogs and is on the verge of a nervous breakdown but it's entirely different and I know it's not all that strange for someone with working/show huskies to have many - although I didn't know 10-12 was common.
Most dally owners have about 4 but they are only for pets/show not generally for working and the places I've been to where they do have working dals only have one - just shows the difference.
so, again blues - when do I get to come and see them :D
Of course I didn't mean anything nasty by it- I'm just amazed that you can move in your house with that many animals in it.
I have 4 cats and sometimes it seems that they're constantly underfoot every time you do anything- so it makes me wonder how people with more animals manage, and if 4 cats' worth of hair is a git to get rid of, how do you manage?
All of that said, I suppose there's little difference in caring for 6 or 8 cats if you have 4, apart from the vets' and food bills of course.
*tries not to envisage Strixton Manor full of beagles* :hihi:
I think 6-8 would do it
kidinks84 02-12-2006, 18:28 they are the sweetest things i have ever seen. LOVE the names you have given them by the way i got myself a pet called nanook think it a great name:hihi:

Meds, we have two cats and two dallies - the dallies fill up the house as it is and the thought of having 12 fully grown dallies in the house scares me to death...
We are looking at fostering another dal over Christmas - see foster thread - and I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown just thinking about it... we must be mad :loopy: :hihi:
bluesandtwos 04-12-2006, 12:32 we found after number 3, all the rest just slot in. we do need very strict pack management and no-one is allowed to step out of line, go in anyone elses food bowl at feeding time etc etc and we do everything in order of hierarchy. walking is done in shifts with 2 dogs each, though we are currently looking into a piece of land, to fence off, purely to exercise the dogs in. do need to look into buying a bigger van though as shortly going to need more cage space on training days. countrary to what you might expect, huskies are a very placid breed and not at all hyper in the house. they have a quick burst of energy, then crash out for the rest of the day. also, they very rarely bark, so no problem caused for the neighbours. vet costs are a biggie, but all insured and our vet is very good at doing 'breeders' terms with pricing, when, for instance, we turn up with several needing an annual booster etc. another little tip: worming products can be bought far cheaper online!
