Can anyone help!!!

Prior to Sunday, I had a normal TV with just a coaxial aerial on it. I had my DVD, cable (telewest), and playstation all connected to my video. DVD and cable through scart and PS2 through AV. Also had hifi through the audio sockets on the video so everything could go through the stereo.

This was ok, but meant you could only watch DVD OR Cable OR play PS2 by selecting the appropriate AV channel on the video. We couldn't record terrestrial and watch cable, we couldn't record and play DVD or PS2 etc.

We've bought a new TV which has 2 scarts and an AV.

The problem is, we can't seem to connect it so that we can, record terrestial while watching cable. Tried it and couldn't get cable while recording terrestial. We could record cable through AV2 on the video and watch terrestrial on the TV.
Haven't tried trying to record something and be able to watch DVD or play PS2 at the same time.

Does anyone know how to set this up so we can watch DVD, play PS2 while recording with terrestrial or cable?

At the moment, we have cable to TV, DVD to TV, video to cable. Terrestrial ariel to video and video to TV coaxial. PS2 through TV AV.

Is it a matter of changing this set-up, or retuning video or something?
Help!!!

You are almost right from the setup I have with my sky box.

If you connect the TV via the video on the scart lead instead of just the coaxial so you would have:

cable to video, video to TV, DVD to TV, coaxial to video and then to TV, and PS2 through however you had it - we haven't got this bit so not sure.

To watch or tape terrestial tv use ordinary channels on tv and video to watch cable use AV.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

I shall try it tonight and see how it works, it's only slightly different (cable and video connections to TV round the other way) but might make all the difference!

If it doesn't work, I'll be back tomorrow on here to get more advice!

Wendy's suggestion sounds like it will work. One extra thing is to make sure "SCART Control" is set to "On" on any of your equipment that has the facility to turn it on/off - that way your TV should probably change to whichever source you turn on, all depends on the models though!

Blimey! I've just had a most interesting conversation with telewest! For the first time EVER they have been really helpful and the guy I spoke to deserves a medal! What a star.

I tried Wendy's set-up and still I could only record cable and watch terrestial but when I tried to record terrestial I could not get cable on the AV. It seemed I could only watch cable through AV2 on my video, so couldn't change video channel to record terrestial.

I rang telewest and the guy talked me through. He went through it step by step. It turns out the problem is actually with the scart lead. The normal scart lead connected from the cable box to the video has to have a pin romoved (Pin number 8 ) in order to stop the video over riding. (Like you'd know that!). Most people have to get a technician out to sort this, or a technician set it up originally. Because my boyfriend is a sparky the telewest guy talked him through how to remove pin 8. Telewest wouldn't normally do this but he trusted me bloke! We'd have had to wait 10 days for a technician!

So now, for anyone with the same prob, the connections are

cable scart to Tv scart
cable scart to video scart.
Aerial to video, video to tv (coaxial)
DVD to second TV scart.

Retune video to a channel on TV (e.g. 0).
Video no longer overrides so you can change the channel to record 1-5 and watch cable on your TV AV channel.
If you need to record cable you put it on the AV channel on your video.
You can watch DVD and play PS2 while recording either terrestial or cable.

Hooray!

Glad you got sorted. As you have said there is no way you or anyone else would have known about that pin. I certainly didn't, my setup was done by the sky technician originally (with him showning me the setup - although I used to work in tv and video rental) and mine also works with the same way as yours but according to the technician it's not necessary to have the scart from the box to the tv, but then the sky box must work differently as they don't have to remove the pin!
