Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for a photographer for our wedding next year.

We would like someone who's not too expensive, and preferably someone who will give us copies of all the photos on CD and the printing rights too.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
Elle

Try Suzanne Bedford who live up Whirlow, did our Wedding two years ago and was superb ! Not the cheapest but quality and professionalism superb.

You would have to speak about the rights/Cd request.

Does anyone recommend any wedding photographers who are quite reasonably priced?

Its just for a reception - not an actual wedding, as we get married in Cyprus

Thanks

My niece is getting married on August 10th in Doncaster and is looking for a photographer for their wedding. They aren't made of money, but they're not looking for favours. They just want to pay a reasonable amount for someone who is able to provide a good service and who is not willing to rip them off. I always find 'word of mouth' is best on issues like these, and I'll greatly appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks very much guys.

if your niece is on a budget her best bet may be to buy a disposable pack of cameras (you can get them in a nice wedding design so she doesnt have loads of ugly yellow throw aways alover the place) and hand them out to friends and family.

when i got married a friend sorted me a professional photographer out as a pressie, i have to say the results were disapointing (there is a reason these photographers cant charge same as the better ones)

when my dad got married recently, everyone took their own piccies and gave him copies. as a gift i took a load of photos myself and got them developed same day and put him an album together, it cost me about £40 to put a great album together and if i do say so myself it was better than the proffesional one i got.

also the photos are more personal and there are loads of them as opposed to only a few in the album. of corse there a photographers out there that do a fantastic job and its worth getting them for the arty piccies but the cheaper ones in my opinion only take what are essentially snap shots.

Clive Pickering Photographic Concept in Barnsley are fantastic, especially if you Book Clive for the day. He would gladly travel to there too as he has done wedding further afield than that. He did our wedding back in October and he really made the day extra special, he's a real character and gets the best out of every photo opportunity. He only charges a £45 attendance fee and then you just purchase whatever photos you want after that, even if you only want 1. That way you aren't forced to pay for photos in a fixed album price that you might not like.
If you'd like to see the ones he took of our day, PM me and I'll mail you a link

I cant recommend C&C photography enough! They are a young couple who both attend on the day so they never miss a shot and Steve spends some time with the men and Charlotte with the woman. They do the photography for Sheffield United aswell. They have a studio They are so friendly and fresh and have packages to suit everyone! Charlotte & Steve are lovely and will make you day really special. They are doing ours in September: http://candcphotography.co.uk/ 01142011120.

It depends on what your budget is as to what you class as not expensive. I can honestly say that My father has not had a single complaint in his 16 years of being a pro wedding photographer, Andrew Beatson really is at the top of the class for wedding photography, and has recently been joined by Adam, my brother to begin a truely family business with me also providing wedding makeup.

Hi

Me and my girlfriend are planning our wedding for August 16th next year. We thought about getting a willing friend to take the pics but realised that to get some decent quality snaps we will need a pro!

We are trying (as im sure most people do) to keep costs down but do understand that this is a skilled job. Hopefully, if we can find someone local and independent it will be better and cheaper that the fancy companies advertised.

We have two important requirements - the first is that we will be able to keep all the pics taken on a CD/DVD i.e. not just select certain ones for a brochure. Equally important is that we have someone with a sense of humour who would enjoy being at our wedding for the afternoon.

If you know of anyone who is good or are interested yourself then please get in touch,

Thanks
Dave and Ash

We're getting married on a budget and with just a small unconventional 'do' with a few close freinds. Does anyone know of a photographer who might come out for a Saturday morning wedding and just take a few pictures - just a few of the smiling couple (!) and a group shot of all our friends who are there? We definitely don't want all the 'standard' poses!!

We've thought about encouraging everyone to bring cameras on the day to get as many photos as possible to choose from, but would really like a 'professional' looking one or two as well.

We used Clive Pickering in Barnsley (he travels all over though) and he was fantastic, a real character and definitely got the best out of us and the guests and we got some unusual shots too. He'll take as many or as few as you want, there is a £45 attendance fee then you simply buy as many or as few as you want after that, no set album or fixed prices etc.

Definately a good idea getting a pro in to do the shots! However, also got to say that some of the best photos of my wedding were from the hundreds, ney thousands, we received from friends and families who had taken their camera along.

Encourage guests to bring along cameras too, you get some very different perspectives of the day which I thought was lovely!

We are getting married in August and I have a similar budget. We booked www.capturetheimage.co.uk early last year in order to secure the price before it went up. They are charging £950 (but this depends based on the type of album you want and will have gone up slightly since we booked) and this includes all the copyright to the photos. So we get all pictures on CD and all negatives from any photos taken with the normal camera (apparently this is better for the really large photos). I was quoted between £1300 - £1600 for a similar album without the copyright by most other places over a year ago now.

Plus they normally use 2 photographers on the day instead of just 1 so they can capture both reportage and formal shots easily.

A good website to check for good wedding photographers in South Yorkshire is SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers). Put it into Google & it should come up.

Go to the section called 'find a photographer' & you can narrow down your search to within South Yorkshire.

A company I can personally recomend is 'Image Book Weddings'.

Can I just say .. when booking a photographer its always best if they are Qualified to a professional body .. two of the best ones are BIPP ( British Institute of Professional Photographers ) and MPA ( Master photographers Association )
Both have websites were you can search in your area.. the benefits of using a qualified member is that they have to be fully insured and follow guide lines for Professional conduct. Its peace of mind at the end of the day because you only get one chance to capture your big day. However if theyre not a qualified member of any professional body ALWAYS make sure they are fully insured. :)

I had recently success in finding good photographer for myself on w ww.listphotographers. com/ website. It seems like they have various wedding and other kinds of professional photographers from entire world on this directory.

One way to reduce the cost of wedding photography is to pay the photographer for the day, and take the photo files/disc and do your own cropping/albums. I have a contact for one such photographer who charges £300 all in and every one receives a copy of the C.D and can take what they want from it. This controls costs and does not penalise guests who want more than others.

we are setting up a photography company at the moment and want pictures for our website so we would do it at cost price of £75 and give you a disc with all the photographs on afterwards at no extra cost. Alternatively, if you wanted an album printing or individual prints we could get these done for you cheaply. We have two experienced photographers who do exactly the kind of 'natural' photography you are after. Phone 07745 050 786 if you want more info?

Have you thought about askin someone in your family to take the photo's??? I know it's not very professional but if there is someone in the family that knows anything about cameras etc then that would reduce the cost.

I have asked my OH's brother. He's not professional but he knows about camera's, pictures and the right lighting etc. Were then getting disposable cameras for the evening reception, but if you do this you must bare in mind that some will either take the camera's with them or take pictures of, well their bums etc.

We are doing the same as Sarah1312.My dad is a fab photographer and wants to do some pic's for our wedding[in between giving me away]and one of our friends did some photos for another wedding we went to and they were lovely so he is also doing some. Both have top spec camera's and my h2b has bought a great photo printer from a computer fair. The day guests are having disposable camera's which I thought were fun and they can take them home to develop.

Where is the ceremony hun? My reason for asking is my photographer has a registry office package which includes an album of 30 photos and you get to keep all the ones you don't choose for the album too! It's £275, a bargain and 2 of my cousins had him too. Great with kids if any are there. He can stay all day, and for £275 it's a bargain, yet not naff photos at all. PM me if you want the details hun. xx

There's lots and lots out there, as a photographer myself you need to check the following:

Make sure they've a good varied portfolio of work to ensure they've lots of wedding experience.

Get everything in writing, to ensure you know what you're getting.

Make sure you know the process for selecting the images you want (viewing proofs, usually).

Make sure you get what you pay for! There are a lot of cowboys out there!!

Where do you start when looking for a Wedding Photographer?

What is most important to you when selecting a wedding photographer? Cost? Their previous work?

Thanks!

i came on here for tips :hihi: i did go to wedding fairs but I found a lot of the ones there were too expensive for me. I like the idea of different packages, but there is no way I can afford £1000+ no matter how good the photos are. Pricewise my budget is really low, and I considered not having a photographer, but decided it was important to me, I love looking at past photos and have several professional ones of the kids on display at home.
So yes, cost is the major factor for me sadly. Then I looked at how long the photographer was there, I wanted a bit of the reception captured at least, and I liked the idea of the preparations beforehand. Most photographers in my budget stayed for about 3 hours, so it was looking to be a decision on which bits were most important to me.
Another important bit for me was how 'valued' I felt as a customer. Some photographers weren't interested in meeting beforehand, and were happy to discuss things over the phone or internet, difficult to convey what I wanted I felt. Others wanted me to go to their studio, the main problem being that I find it difficult to travel and be available at specific times due to other commitments. A photographer willing to travel to my home to discuss my wishes was useful.
And finally, one of the things I wanted was the CD of the photos, I know a lot of photographers don't like doing this, for various reasons, but as I have a lot of family and friends who can't come to the wedding for travel reasons I want to be able to put them on my facebook account ect so they can see them.
I was recommended a photographer by the person who's making my cake, I have met them and am very happy with the package they are offering me, I like the photographer as a person and I'm very impressed that he spends his own time visiting the venues before the date to ensure he knows the best places for the photos. :)

For me it was (in order):

1) Price & Service where number one of course - someone needed to be able to come to my house to show their work, I didn't want to travel to them.
2) Photo's to also be provided on CD (saves me scanning them in afterwards!) as we have lots of family who live in Scotland and want to be able to send the photo's to them and also put them on Facebook. I found that some photographers charged extra for this on top of their extortianate fees already. I found one who included it in the price as as he pointed out people would just scan them in anyway (which is what I would've done).
3) Package offered - I wanted someone who would capture the getting ready bit as well as the evening reception.
4) I was looking for someone who could do a nice modern album with plenty of input from me and my htb as to which photo's went in the final album.

Hope this helps : )

My photographer is providing me with all photos on CD (not just low-resolution ones) and also all the negatives from photos he takes with the non-digital camera (he said this is better for the larger photos) as I said I didn't want family members to have to mess about going through him if they wanted any photos from the day. For me this was very important.

Hiya Ladies!!!!

Well I'm settling to married life & thought I'd let you know that Allen Hudson did my photo's (& I ended up with 400 pics - that man is click happy...... but I'm not complaining!!!) He sent me 2 discs 1 was of finalised & edited photo's & the other of the good but not edited ones, if you wanna see some of them (the final ones), look under Ann & Paul on his site (I'm so proud of them).

It really was fantastic, I felt sooooo comfortable with Allen as did my guests, so we were able to relax & get some really good reportage pics as well as proper poses!!

Good luck ladies with your photographer hunting, as I said before though, Allen comes Highly recommended.

Give him a call tomorrow for up to date prices - with us, he did random shots and they were fantastic. ie/ not posed - he caught us chatting to our guests etc..far better than posed photos! ( he did do some posed, but we loved the random shots best, and thus we paid for those)

1) Cheers, this is what we do! Didn't realise this was such a bonus!! The reason we do this is that we want the B&G to be relaxed, and what better place than in their own home! :D

2) The main reason photogs are reluctant to offer a CD is not, as most thingk, to do with the photog losing the money from prints sold... it's actually because an average-Joe would print them at somewhere like Photobox or Jessops, and the quality (whilst being fine) just isn't up to the standard at which we can get them printed at a pro-lab. I, personally, prefer my work to be shown off in the best possible way, and find the easiest way to accomplish this is to take full control of the printing process by using my own calibrated pro-monitor and using a pro-lab who, I know, will print the photos exactly as I want them to be done. :) It's not about the profits!

3) We only offer one package which comes with at least 8 hours coverage, starting when you want it until, normally, the first dance or sometime after (I've been photographing from 8am to 1am before!!) - we then let you decide what else you want in your package. We do this because what appeals to one Bride and Groom won't appeal to others, so why make them have certain things because some B&G's wanted it?

4) Our digital (or coffee-table - depending on what you call them!) albums are hand-printed, hand-bound in Italy, and then shipped over to us. They are, I think, the best quality albums in the world. We take as much (or as little) input as the B&G want to give.

I met this lady at the Jumble at Emily's the other week and the albums she showed us were amazing. She does a standard but also a huge album with photoshopped backgrounds and some superb pics, she also stays for most of the day instead of leaving when the ceremony finishes. I've seen prices elsewhere and thought 'what??!!' but if you get a chance to see the end product you would try and find the extra.....

I know hiring a photographer can sometimes be stressful, and there are concerns about prices, reliability, skill and of course, the more legal side of hiring a photographer such as royalties and the like. I just thought I could offer some friendly advice, or maybe answer some questions regarding these! I part-own a small photography company in sheffield, but I promise to try to not sell my own product, and answer any questions as objectively as i can!
be nice for me to find out what the biggest worries are, and just have a chat!
