Moon max 04-07-2003, 14:57 The earliest available is 1901 here: http://www.pro.gov.uk/ I think they'd stop burning witches by then. Moon Maiden 04-07-2003, 14:58 yes but they never had any trials in Sheffield - so I would have been safe Moon Maiden max 04-07-2003, 15:00 They might have been included in the sheep dog trials at Bakewell Show in order to keep the press away. Moon Maiden 04-07-2003, 15:02 :o :o Moon Maiden Belle 04-07-2003, 15:18 I was writing you an essay on this when the line dropped and I was booted off. let me start again. There are many different kinds of census. There is the regular 10 yearly one that we all undertake and where in 2001 lots of people decided they were Jedis. That regular census is usually available in headline form quite quickly but the individual details of each person is kept secret for 100 years - to protect our privacy so that no-one knows who was living with whom and where. This census in any meaningful way began in 1841, skipped 1941 for the obvious reasons. 1901 is online at a cost via the Public Record Office. 1881 is online free from www.familysearch.com - the mormons. Other years are on in parts and in bits where some kind soul has transcribed them for us. Prior to 1841 the census type info we can see would tend to be burgess rolls, window tax registers, poll tax registers, asset registers like the Domesday Book - and mainly depended on your target being rich or owning property. What sort of thing did you want to know? It may well be out there somewhere Moon Maiden 04-07-2003, 15:23 I have possibly the only reference to witchcraft in Sheffield - a name and a place but that is it. Just wondering where to go from here because it involves freemasons - which are always good for a laugh. Moon Maiden Belle 04-07-2003, 15:51 send me a PM with the details and I will have a search around over the weekend and see if I can suggest sources for you thetruth 10-06-2011, 11:12 Wonder when 2011 will be out? If they are watching us, I would not panic too much. Before anything interesting appears, the mods would have deleted it. I bet that is what happened with the 2011 census thread, it was so interesting and valuable to the authorities they had to pull it and trace everyone who said they wouldn't co-operate. Many of these posters are now non existent and have all 'disappeared' it's like they never existed :o If I suddenly stop posting you know why! |
