Is it possible to insure a car in Florida for a few weeks. For example if I was borrowing a car for the duration of my holiday that has no insurance. Or when I say no insurance, it will have the legal minimum equivelant to our TPO.

Or to be honest, I'm not borrowing one, I've got a great deal on hire, but the insurance with them goes through the roof. but I can hire with legal minimum and find my own 'extra' insurance.

Or am I just a tight a*se.

When we went to Florida on a package, each time we were offered basic insurance which I believe was more than our third party, and were hassled each time to upgrade it to unbelievably expensive insurance. We didnt. Fortunately we had no problems on our trips. The first time we went though, as we were leaving the car hire place we had seen a scottish family take a particular car. We then saw them at the side of the road, car wrecked , fiire, police etc in attendance, everyone OK. It turned out they were at our hotel. They werent allowed a replacement car, so maybe they took the cheap insurance and this was a side effect.
