View Full Version : Lottery numbers strategy
Mosherchik 06-09-2004, 13:24 After a break of around 5 years of not doing the lottery Ive suddenly become addicted once more :? and Im just curious how other peeps go about selecting their lottery numbers do they have the same numbers each week, get a lucky dip, close their eyes and stab the ticket with a pen etc.....?
Personally I have same numbers each week, tend to be related to birthdays and such because I have a thing that the one week I dont put those numbers on is the week they'll come up!!!!
dont believe in lucky dips as I always think theyre programmed not to win even tho I am aware that some people (notoriously) have won on lucky dips curse them!!!
1 number from below 10
1 from the teens
1 from the 20's
2 from the 30's
1 from the 40's
then note these numbers, for instance they might be:
5, 18, 24, 32, 36, 43
then take those numbers and take off 1 off each:
4, 17, 23, 31, 35, 42
then add 2 to those:
6, 19, 25, 33, 37, 44
Put all 3 sets of numbers on for a saturday game and watch the money roll in ;)
Phanerothyme 06-09-2004, 13:35 I wrote six numbers down on the back of the kitchen door, and put £3 in a pot every week when the lottery started.
Currently the total is running at nearly one and a half grand.
(this is not real, this is a thought experiment)..
anyone won any more than that since the lottery started?
OK if you want to win in the lottery, you cannot improve your chances of winning, but you can improve the amount that you win should you hit a jackpot.
You need 6 proper random numbers - and that way you will lessen the likelihood of anyone sharing the Jackpot with you. Bear in mind that if you have chosen common number combinations, then you *will* be sharing your Jackpot with undeserving scrotes. The more random the numbers you choose are, the more likely you are to keep the whole jackpot to yourself.
Additionally, if you have 2 or more identical lines then if you have to share the jackpot you will get proportionally more.
Incidentally phan, I've won £2,500 on the lottery in total. I've been putting £5 a week in my imaginary pot.

Good point. Unless everyone does this...
£2,500 eh? Not Bad. Anyone else won more than that on the lotery in total over the last 10 years?
I have won just over £2500 since the lottery started putting on just £2 a week. That includes one 5 numer winner of a couple of grand. How crap is that though one more number and it would have been millions!

I use the jersey numbers of my fave Steelers hockey Players (past and present)..
Currently stand as..
3 - 10 - 13 - 17 - 29 - 44
2 - 19 - 22 - 27 - 32 - 34
I use my lucky numbers & I have not won for 4 years,Who said they are supposed to be lucky lol
I won £1,673,916 on a luck dip :P
Just kidding- did win a tenner once or twice though:D
miniminch 06-09-2004, 17:44 I try to pick the exact same number as the ones they pull out of that bingo machine on a saturday night. So far I have never managed to do it. Its too hard!!
to minimise the amount of sharing i'd go for the exact opposite of truly random, choose 1 to 6, or better 40 - 46. Chances are that no one else in the country (except maybe some annoying mathmaticians) picks that, as most people would believe that they are less likely to win by picking sequential numbers.
I win a pint every week.
My secret tactic is to pass the shop selling the tickets, and hand over the two quid I'd otherwise gamble on a couple of multi-million-to-one shot, to the landlady. Guaranteed prize every time, I win a pint that way, week in, week out, without fail.
Draggletail 07-09-2004, 00:11 I dont have a problem with the 'sharing' aspect of the lottery - why would I want multi millions? A million is going to be significantly life changing.
I think the lottery wins should be made up of lots more smaller payouts, spread it around a bit more.
Suppose then takings would be down 'cos everyone wants to be enormously rich. Why?
ReginaldD 07-09-2004, 01:03 I don't do the lottery much but when i do i normally use my birthday,17and my house number,30 then pick the rest at random
matsalleh 07-09-2004, 14:41 1-6 I am sure that Camelot once said that if those numbers ever came out there would be so many winners it would hardly be worth while (great minds think alike).
All you people who have won, exactly how much profit have you actually made from your £2 or £3 pounds every week since it started?
I am convinced that the only way to do it is in a syndicate, pick a few numbers and perm them thus covering all your selections. Of course that way you have to share with the other members. I no longer do it having realised how much it cost me to win two or three tenners. The Irish lottery is a better bet £500 for three numbers, and only 42 to pick from.
Good luck to you all ,if you win pm mine in a plain brown envolope!
the lottery is the biggest scam going, you have got a better chance of winning a game of bingo.

Not necessarily, bingo has scam elements to it as well, the numbers that are called are not that random although they are selected via an RNG (random number generator) the machine knows which card has won as all the serial numbers are inputed into the machine so we can check the claims more easily, and in some bingo games such as the National or Link games all clubs have the same numbers which are "selected" by game control and are submitted to us on a sheet of paper with the calling sequence. The numbers are "rigged" in order to suit certain tickets the only thing random is who gets the ticket.
Personally I think we should give all the customers an envelope some have money in and some dont, those who get the money are winners and better luck next time to those who get nowt, no bingo needs to be called then I can knock off early :D
Ever wonder why the daily play games get 26000 winners but the main Wednesday and Saturday draws only manage to get 2 winners........if that!
